Here On Earth: Chapter 4

"Did I hear you right, Brok, cause if I did, then you just said that…"
"You have to choose," Brian finished for Nick. "Yes, you do. You are the one who gets to decide which one of us will be the one to rejoin you. Everyone's memory will be erased of everything that previously happened and will have new memories of what then took place. Everyone, that is, except you. You'll always remember both stories."
Just as Brian finished talking, there was a bright flash of light in the room. Nick shielded his eyes and when he looked back at Brian, Eva was at his side.
"Does he see us?" She asked.
"Eva!" Nick jumped up and grabbed her into his arms, letting the sparks of electricity from her body shoot through his. "Oh, Eva, I've missed you so much!" He leaned over and gave her a quick kiss. "Damn! Never had a kiss like that before!" He held her close to him but far enough so he could still see her face. She was crying at the sight of him, at the touch of his lips.
"Baby, you don't know how bad I just wanted to be with you!" She pulled him into another tight hug.
Brian cleared his throat. "You guys?" They let go of each other and sat down together on the bed, hand-in-hand. Brian sat back down in the chair. "I was just telling Nick about our deal with Tina."
"Oh." Eva said quietly, letting go of Nick's hand.
"So are you guys really and seriously gonna make me choose?" They both nodded. "Well I don't wanna." Nick got up from the bed and started pacing. "There's no way that I'm gonna choose between the girl that I love and the best friend that I've ever had! No way!"
"Nick, you have to," Eva grasped at his hand, holding it between both of hers. "That's the only way that it will ever work."
"What happens if I don't choose?" Nick sat back down on the bed.
"We all die," Brian said, the pain in his voice evident. "Even you."
Nick looked at both of them to make sure that they were serious. When he knew that they were, he sighed. "How long do I have to make my decision?"
"Midnight on Christmas Eve." Brian answered.
Nick looked back and forth between Brian and Eva. Well then, let the games begin, Nick thought, also thinking of how Brian and Eva would be competing for his love. And for their lives.
