DEATH (PART I)
Story by Daisy

You begin to die the day you were born…some just die sooner than others.

Prologue

Ebony stared at the wilted rose lying on her brother’s grave. Tears began to blur her vision as she knelt in front of the tombstone. She traced the letters of his name, tracing the lines of his face in her mind. She and her brother had always been close, and now, when they were closer than ever, he died. No, Ebony thought, he didn’t die. He was murdered. She shut her eyes against the thought and a single tear trickled down her cheek.

Ebony remembered clearly how her brother had died. They had been at a party with their friends. Actually, they were her friends, but her brother had come along for the drinks. Ebony considered herself one of the luckiest girls alive, for she was attending, not just any party, but a party thrown by Nick Carter, a Backstreet Boy. Her brother had gotten extremely drunk and had gone down to the lake to take a dip with a few other people, every one of the Backstreet Boys included. They returned without her brother.

“Where’s Jonathan?” She had asked, merely curious and not worried. They all shrugged; none of them had even noticed that he had been there. An hour later with no Jonathan, Ebony began to get worried. She questioned every one of the partygoers, finding nothing. But later when the police and she had searched the lake behind Nick’s house, she did find something. She found her beloved brother’s lifeless body tied to the bottom of the lake floor by weeds, his eyes open and searching, his arms floating limply in the water.

Ebony shook her head, trying to get the mental picture of her brother out of her mind. No tears came. Her eyes were as stony as the tombstone sitting in front of her. Her fingers had come to a stop on the stone, resting on the inscription reading “beloved brother and son”. Ebony stared hard at the words, vowing revenge on the people who did this to her brother.

          The Backstreet Boys.
