DEATH
(PART I)
Story by Daisy
You begin to die the day you were born…some just die sooner than others.
Chapter One
“I love you, Sarah.” Kevin stroked her
hair lovingly, gazing into her eyes. She kissed his lips softly. The ringing of
his cell phone forced them to break away from each other. “Hello?” Kevin
answered.
“Honey, where are you?” A static voice
came over the line. “You said you were going to be home an hour ago.”
“Oh, Kristin, I’m so sorry,” Kevin
turned his back to Sarah and walked a few steps away. “I just got caught up
over here. It ran a little longer than usual today.” Sarah slid her arms
around Kevin’s chest from behind and he smiled. “I’ll be home within
twenty minutes. I promise.”
“Okay. Love you.”
“Love you too.” Kevin said, then hung up
the phone and slipped it into his pocket, turning back to Sarah. “I’ve gotta
leave.”
“Wife?” She asked. Kevin nodded. She
kissed his lips again. “I love the time we spend together.” She wrapped her
arms around his neck and stared up at his handsome face taking in every one of
his gorgeous features.
“So do I.” Kevin kissed her lips. “But
I really have to go.” He slipped out from her arms and let himself out of her
house.

“Great news, guys.” The doctor walked back into the room where Kevin and his wife waited nervously. Kevin grabbed for Kristin’s hand and held onto it tightly.
“What is it?” Kristin asked anxiously.
“You’re going to have a baby!”
Kristin screamed as soon as the words were
out of the doctor’s mouth. She threw her arms around Kevin’s neck and hugged
him fiercely. Kevin’s eyes began to water with the news. I’m going to be
a father! He thought excitedly.
“Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?”
Kevin asked.
“Well, we can’t be sure, but I do have a
strong feeling that this one is going to be a boy.”
“I’m gonna have a son!” Kevin yelled,
then fainted.

The next morning, Kristin Richardson sat alone on the couch watching the early morning soap operas. Kevin had left early for rehearsal that morning. Just as two of the characters began to get into a catfight, the phone rang.
“Hello?” Kristin asked, distracted.
“Hello. Is this the Richardson
residence?” A professional voice asked her. Kristin muted the television.
“Yes it is.”
“Is Kevin Richardson home?”
“No, but I’m his wife. I’m sure you
could tell me and I’ll give him the message.” Kristin answered.
“I’m calling from the Kentucky State
Women’s Health Center and I just wanted to inform you that your pregnancy test
came out positive.” The woman’s voice said.
“Excuse me?” Kristin leaned forward with
confusion.
“This is Sarah, right? The name says Sarah
Little and I just assumed that she was married to Kevin Richardson since
that’s who this form says that the father of her child is.”
“I think you’ve got the wrong Kevin
Richardson. My name is Kristin Richardson and I’m his wife. There’s no way
that my husband is the father of some Sarah Little’s baby.” Kristin shook
her head and prepared to hang up.
“Is your husband from the Backstreet
Boys?”
“Yes.” Kristin rolled her eyes, expecting
the woman to want an introduction.
“Well, ma’am, so was the man that walked
in with Miss Little the other day. It caused quite a commotion.”
Kristin couldn’t respond. She couldn’t
believe what she was hearing. Kevin couldn’t possibly be cheating on
her, could he? No way, he loved her too much. Besides, he’s almost so busy
with his work that he barely had any time to spend with her. Or maybe he’s
not busy with work at all, Kristin thought, her mind racing. Maybe his
“work” is really Sarah Little. Is Kevin really cheating on me? Kristin
shook her head, telling herself that it wasn’t possible. Or was it?
Kristin jumped off the couch and ran to the
kitchen desk where they kept the phone books. Sarah Little, Sarah Little,
Kristin repeated in her head as her finger scanned the names.
“Got it!” She grabbed the phone and
dialed the number that was posted in the phone book and waited while the phone
rang.
“Hello?” A woman’s voice answered.
Kristin gasped, then regained her composure.
“Miss Little?” Kristin asked, her voice
unnaturally high.
“Yes?”
“Miss Little, I’m calling from
the…the…” Kristin replayed her previous phone conversation in her mind,
trying to remember where the lady said she was calling from. Oh yes! “I’m
calling from Kentucky State Women’s Health Center and I’m calling about your
pregnancy test.”
“Oh!” Kristin heard the excitement in the
single word and her stomach went into a serious of knots.
“I was just calling to tell you that the
test came up positive.”
“Oooh!” She screamed so loud that Kristin
had to pull the phone away from her ear. “Do you know what it is yet?”
“No, not yet.” Kristin rushed into her
next sentence, full of worry of what her answer would be. “Who did you say
that father was?”
“Um, Kevin Richardson.” She said clearly.
Kristin’s heart fell.
“Of the Backstreet Boys?” Her voice
trembled.
“Yes, that’s the one!” Sarah answered
proudly. “Aren’t I just the luckiest?”
“Yes. Yes you are.” Kristin said with no
emotion at all. “Good bye.”
Kristin clicked the phone off and let it drop
from her hand onto the kitchen floor with a loud bang. So it was true. Kevin was
cheating on her. And he had gotten both of them pregnant.
