DEATH (PART I)
Story by Daisy

You begin to die the day you were born…some just die sooner than others.

Chapter Two

“Hi, honey!” Kevin called as he walked in the front door late that evening. No one answered. “Kristin?” Kevin walked through the house to the living room, flipping on the light switch to reveal Kristin sitting on the couch with her arms crossed across her chest.

“Hey honey!” Kevin walked over and kissed her on the forehead. “Why were you sitting in the dark?” Kevin sat down on the couch next to her. She didn’t answer him. “Kristin, what’s wrong?”

“Sarah Little.” Kristin spat out the name, watching Kevin’s reaction closely. He put a confused look on his face.

“What?” He asked a little too innocently.

“Sarah Little. Does the name ring a bell?” No answer. “No? Well, how about Sarah Little, the dirty whore that you’ve been sleeping with behind my back?” Kevin’s mouth dropped open for a second, then he clamped it shut.

          “Kristin, I…”

“Congratulations, big shot. You’re gonna have two kids.” She stood up and began to walk out of the room.

          “You’re having twins?”

Kristin whirled around and glared at him. “No, dumb ass! You got both of us pregnant! They called here with the news of her baby! Way to go Mr. Fertile.” She turned on her heel and walked down the hallway to their bedroom, slamming the door behind her.

Kevin sat on the couch, stunned. Why would they call here? He asked. Who cares? How the hell am I gonna make this better? He ran a sweaty hand through his hair. He reached inside his jacket pocket and pulled out his cell phone. He quickly dialed Sarah’s number and walked outside as the phone rang.

          “Hello?” Sarah’s voice answered.

“Sarah, we have big problems!” He hissed into the phone, pacing in front of the house.

“I have great news! Me first!” He could here her take a deep breath. “Kevin, I’m pregnant!”

“That’s the big problem.” He sighed and stopped pacing.

“You call a baby a problem?” Sarah’s voice held shock.

“Of course I do! Now Kristin knows about us! And the baby.” He whispered the last word, scared of what would happen if he said it any louder.

          “She knows? How?”

“They called her with the news of your baby. Why would they be calling my house, Sarah?”

It took a moment before she answered. “In the form I had to fill out, it asked questions about the baby’s father. You’re the only one that I’ve slept with in the past few months so I filled in the questions according to your information. I never thought they’d call you.”

“Well they did. And now I’m in deep.” Kevin shook his head and thought, Way too deep.

Ebony sat rigidly in the bushes, careful not to move or make a sound. From where she was, she could hear Kevin speaking frantically into the small cell phone that rested in his large hand.

Damn, you still look as good as ever, she thought looking him from head to toe. His shoulders were broad, you could see his stomach muscles through the thin t-shirt that he was wearing, and he stood tall. Ebony watched him pace in front of the house, running his hand through his silky dark hair.

Ebony smiled as she envisioned the death that Kevin would soon experience. Poor baby, she thought, tilting her head with an odd sympathy. You think you’ve got problems now. Just you wait, Kevin. Just you wait.
