DEATH
(PART I)
Story by Daisy
You begin to die the day you were born…some just die sooner than others.
Chapter Six
Kevin breathed a sigh of relief as he drove home from his lawyer’s office. The contract had been signed, legally binding Sarah to silence. And now he was on his way home to patch things up with Kristin. He jumped nervously out of the car when he got to the house and waited impatiently at the door after knocking.
“Kevin.” Kristin whispered when he saw her. Kevin couldn’t take it anymore. He reached out to her, cupped her small chin in his hand and kissed her lips softly.
“We need to talk.” He said, pulling away from her, but not dropping his hand from her chin. She nodded and let him in the house. They walked in silence to the living room where they sat down next to each other on the couch. Kevin reached for her hands and held them wordlessly for a minute.
“Kristin, I broke all bonds to Sarah today.” She looked up at him hopefully and he nodded. “She signed a contract that said she wouldn’t tell the press and I paid her what she asked for.”
“How much was that?”
“Ten thousand, which isn’t much because I make tons more.” Kevin scooted closer to Kristin. “It also said that she would no longer contact me for anything. My name would not go on the birth certificate. We’re no longer tied together in any way.”
Kevin waited nervously as Kristin turned the information over in her mind. He sounds sincere. And I know he loves me. She thought. And I know I love him. She smiled widely and Kevin did the same. He hugged her tightly, an unspoken promise of faithfulness between them. He pulled back from her and smoothed her bangs away from her face.
“I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you too,” she whispered back, meeting his lips for a most wanted kiss.
“Can we celebrate our baby now?” Kevin asked, pulling her up from the couch.
“What did you have in mind?” Kristin asked a smile spread across her face.
“How about that dinner that we never got to eat the other night?” Kristin nodded. “And how about a moonlit walk afterwards?” She nodded again and hugged him tightly.
“Now, go get to your rehearsal.” Kristin let go of him. Kevin looked at her questioningly. “Fatima and the other guys called here wondering where you were.”
Kevin kissed her once more and headed out the door to rehearsal. Or so he thought.
