History
of Krewe of Illusions
Enter
the "World of Imagination"...
That's
what will surround you at a Krewe of Illusions'
Mardi Gras Extravaganza. Illusions is well
recognized for our elaborate and unique style
of costumes, along with our many talented performers
as they light the stage with theatrical productions
beyond imagination. It takes many talents blended
together to put on such productions from season
to season, changing with the personality of
the krewe.
Krewe
of Illusions was formed in April of 1989 with
a group of 10 charter members to devote their
time on a different style of celebration for
Mardi Gras. Today out of those first original
charter members, we have 4 original embers
left. After the first membership drive, our
membership status grew to 25 members for our
1990 ball. To date we have over 60 including
our newly added youth members.
The
name "Krewe of Illusions" was chosen
by the original charter members to promote
and foster our own style of celebrating Mardi
Gras.
Most
other krewes chose names in French or Greek,
but those names just did not excite us enough.
We were looking for something different: so
we came up with Illusions, meaning what you
would actually experience at our Mardi Gras
Celebrations may not be what it really seems
to be, an illusion. In our productions, we
have many illusions, not necessarily magic,
but our imagination sometimes takes us to another
realm of believing in things that are not reality.
The
late Krewe Captain David O'Quinn designed our
Krewe crest. The crest symbolizes the Krewe
with the comedy and tragedy mask inset on the
name of "Krewe of Illusions". Our
Krewe colors are Black(Mystery), Teal(Loyalty),
and Fuchsia(Desire). This is the force behind
Illusions.
Our
main goal is to celebrate Mardi Gras in our
own Grand Style, and put on the best productions
that we can. In our organization the Captain
will layout the format of the ball, from the
theme, to costuming, artwork, entertainment,
etc. The Captain will appoint all members to
a ball committee to help before and during
the presentation to help the Krewe have a successful
ball.
Krewe
of Illusions Mardi Gras Extravaganza has one
of
the most spectacular Mardi Gras Balls in Lake
Charles. This is due to the talents and dedication
from each member of this Krewe. Most of our
members are skilled in a creative business,
such as costuming, stain glass designers, engineers,
artists, electrical and sound engineers, fine
arts, and more...We rarely have to go outside
the Krewe for anything.
