There's lots of chrome on the 1985 Maxim. I really like the instrument cluster. It is both classic and elegant. The analog displays are simple (ie. not too crowded or busy looking) and easy to read in daylight or at night. I don't care for electronic instrument clusters as were available on some XJs. From certain angles, the Maxim's speedometer and tachometer look like a pair of eyes.

The bike had just over 17,000km on the odometer when I bought it. That translates to an average of slightly more than 1,000km per year logged by the previous owners. I added almost 1,000km in the first week after I got it licensed and insured. I don't plan on letting it gather dust.

One of my first modifications was a little innovation I refer to as a "redneck wrist-rest" as pictured below. It relieves some of the strain on your right hand, wrist, and forearm by allowing you to control the throttle by simply resting the heel of your hand on the wrist rest rather than gripping the throttle.
