Riding The Waves - I came down from Moana Loa to face the first of two offshore hurricanes that played havoc with the weather and the ocean. Some brave souls ventured out with their surfboards but few seemed willing or capable of riding the waves that day. Thousands of others crowded Hawaii's beaches to enjoy the spectacle of the violent seas crashing up against the shoreline. I waited for calmer conditions before taking my first surfing lesson on Oahu's North Shore.
