Q: WHAT INFLUENCED YOU TO BECOME A DJ? A: FIRST OF ALL CAUSE I ALWAYS LOVED MUSIC. SECOND OF ALL I GOT INFLUENCED BY LISTENING TO MIX SHOWS BACK IN THE LATE 80'S. THERE WAS ALOT OF MIX SHOWS ON THE RADIO STATIONS HERE ON FM 88.1. IT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST MIX SHOWS I HAD HEARD OUT HERE. IT WAS DJ R.O.B. AND DJ RAURY. I HAD GOTTEN INFLUENCED ALOT BY THOSE GUYS. THEY WERE PLAYING ALL THE OLD BREAK DANCE MUSIC AND THE OLD HIP HOP, AND THINGS LIKE THAT. AND THATS BASICALLY WHY I GOT INTO IT. Q: WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DID YOU START OUT WITH? A: I STARTED OUT WITH FREESTYLE ACTUALLY. BACK IN THE DAYS, THE OLD LATIN FREESTYLE. AND THEN I GOT INTO ELECTRIC FUNK WHICH IS BASICALLY KIND OF ROCK AND ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF. AND THAT WAS BASICALLY MY FAVORITE KIND OF MUSIC UP INTO THE 90'S, AND THEN I GOT INTO HOUSE. Q: WHY DID YOU START GETTING INTO HOUSE? A: WELL I REALLY STARTED LIKING HOUSE MUSIC WHEN TECHNO CAME OUT IN THE EARLY 90'S AND I LOVED THE HARD TECHNO. AND THEN FROM THERE I GOT INTO HARD HOUSE, AND THEN PROGRESSIVE HOUSE. BUT THE ONE I REALLY LIKED TO LISTEN TO WAS JOSE.(JOSE 2 HYPE) AND DJ SPEEDY. BECAUSE BACK IN 91' 92' THEY USED TO PLAY AT THE TECHNO RAVES, AT WAREHOUSES AND THINGS LIKE THAT. THE OLD OLD RAVES... THOSE WERE SOME OF THE FIRST RAVES HERE BY THE WAY. Q: WHO WAS THROWING THOSE KIND OF RAVES? WERE YOU AROUND WHEN THAY STARTED TO POP UP? A: NO, I WASNT DJ'ING BACK THEN, I WAS JUST LIKE ONE OF THE PEOPLE FROM THE PARTY SCENE. I WAS NEVER IN A PARTY CREW, BUT I USED TO GO ALL THE TIME, AND I WAS JUST BAD ASS, CAUSE PEOPLE WOULD BREAK INTO WAREHOUSES. AND IT WASNT EVEN REBELS BACK THEN. IT WAS WHITE PEOPLE AND BLACK PEOPLE AND LATINS...JUST PEOPLE WHO LOVED TECHNO AND HOUSE. Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST EVENT? A: WELL MY FIRST ACTUALL EVENT WAS LUCKY CHARMS BY SINISTER CROWD. BACK IN 1995. AND I ALSO DID A COUPLE OF HOUSE PARTIES. BETO G'S BIRTHDAY BASH. IT WAS ALMOST LIKE AN EVENT, BUT IT WAS IN A CLUB HOUSE AT SOME APARTMENTS IN 94'. SO THAT WAS LIKE ONE OF MY FIRST PARTIES. Q: WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER THE MOST FROM BACK IN THE DAY? A: (LAUGHS) THE GIRLS, ALL THE OLD SCHOOL REBELS. CAUSE BACK THEN NOT TOO MANY GANGSTERS WENT TO OUR EVENTS, IT WAS ALMOST ALL REBELS AND ONLY A FEW HIP HOP SYLE, BUT IT REALLY WASNT IN. BUT I REMEMBER BAD ASS SOUND SYSTEMS. BACK THEN THAY WOULD GO ALL OUT, AND PUT EFFORT INTO IT. BAD ASS FLYERS, IT WASNT GARBAGE FLYERS LIKE THESE KIDS NOW DAYS. AND I LIKED THE LIGHTING, THEY WOULD BRING BIG ASS PROJECTORS, AND ALL THAT STUFF BACK THEN. AND THATS WHAT I REMEMBER ALOT. Q: WHO DO YOU THINK WAS THE BEST HOUSE DJ? A: PROBABLY JOSE 2 HYPE WAS THE BEST LOCAL DJ. BUT ALL AROUND BAD BOY BILL HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE. HIS STYLE WAS THE SHIT. Q: DO YOU LIKE HIS STYLE NOW? A: NO.(LAUGHING) BECAUSE HE SWITCHED IT UP ALOT.BUT I LIKED HIM AND RICHARD HUMPTY VISION. CAUSE HUMPTY USED TO DO POWER TOOLS IN L.A. Q: WHAT WAS THE BEST EVENT YOU PLAYED AT? A: THE BEST RAVE EVER? APOLLO 13. THAT WAS GEN.-X. AND I CANT EVEN BELIEVE IT CAUSE THAT WASNT EVEN A STRAIGHT LATIN RAVE, THAT WAS LIKE A HALF WHITE AND HALF REBEL EVENT. BUT JUST THE LOCATION, THE MOON MAN, EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT WAS BAD ASS. HOW WERE UP ON THE SCAFFOLDING, ABOVE EVERYONE. AND THE SOUND SYSTEM. SO I WOULD SAY THAT WAS MY FAVORITE RAVE. Q; TELL THE TRUTH. WHICH SCENE IS BETTER? A: THE ONE BEFORE. THE SCENE FROM 95 TO ABOUT 99 WAS THE BEST. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER SCENE LIKE THAT AGAIN. THERE WAS SOME GOOD PARTIES AFTER THAT. IT WAS THE VIBE, THERE WASNT THAT MANY FIGHTS, THERE WAS NO SHOOTINGS HARDLY BACK THEN. AND THERE WAS A BAD ASS REBEL PARTY EVERY WEEKEND. IT WASNT LIKE NOW WHERE THERES ONE EVERY MONTH AND A HALF OR TWO MONTHS. Q: WAS THERE A SPECIFIC CREW THAT STOOD OUT AND WAS ALWAYS ON THEIR GAME? A: YEAH... SINISTER CROWD. Q: AND THEY WERENT EVEN THAT DEEP HUH? A: NAW, SINISTER WAS ALWAYS JUST LEO, AND GILBERT, AND JO JO, AND THEM FOOLS. BUT THEM AND REBEL ALLIANCE, AND LOST BOYS DID ALOT OF TIGHT PARTIES. UNTIL GEN-X CAME ALONG AND JACOB THREW ALOT OF TIGHT SHIT. I PLAYED SPEED GARAGE FOR G-X (HA HA) Q: WHY DO YOU THINK OUR SCENE DIED OUT? A: I THINK ITS CAUSE OF ALL THE HATING, AND ALL THE FIGHTS, AND BESIDES THAT, THE PAOPLE STARTED GETTING OLDER AND GOING TO 21 AND OLDER CLUBS. AND JUST THESE NEW LITTLE CREWS STARTED COMING UP, AND IT JUST WASNT THE SAME. Q: Why do you think the younger people didnt keep the old school style raves going on? A: I dont know...One thing though is that they didnt have the money. I mean, back then those guys, when they threw parties, they had car washes, you know, they did anything to come up with money. And all those crews, back in the day, everyone pitched in money. $20 here, $50 here. and they would come up with $1,000 dollars, and rent the place...Not like now, nobody's got any money, and if they do, they dont want to risk it. The cops are more aware. And then you start running out of places, cause the cops start finding out where you throw parties and stuuf like that... But back then you could get restaurants, you could get warehouses...now its so hard to get places without getting busted. Q: What would you change about the current scene? A: Stop all the hating, cause theres alot of haters. and get back into playing ALL styles of music, like how we used to. Anf if you remember back then you could play house, you could play k-roq, you could play spanish rock, hip hop, freestyle, and things like that and everyone would like it. Now its just reggaeton all night, and a little hip hop. So I'd like to get back to where we could play k-roq, house, and all the different styles, and the crowd like it and not leave the dance floor like they do now at the fort cheyanne and those places, you know. The new crews are trying to do their thing but its the same stuff and it gets boring to go play all raggaeton and all hip hop at all these parties. Q: Do you think the scene would ever come back, the way it was? A: naaaaw, I dont think so. Q: do you think the same style would ever come back? A: Probably not... Cause its a different generation, a different time. Most of the old school people that I talk to are still kickin it, but their all clubbers, or their married, have kids, and shit like that. Q: If there was ever an old school type of event do you think the older people would show up? A: I think you would get some, but not alot. They would think it was too childish, or think that there would be too many kids there. You would have to do something specificlly for them. You know, like especially invite those old school crews, and see if they show up. And even then I dont know if they'd show up. Maybe you could get away with one big event every six months or so, and I think you could draw a big crowd. You could probably get all of the old school people to come out for one big event, but you would have to really go out and find them, you know, really promote. It would take alot more work than passing out flyers at schools though.
alright panic is there anything final that you would like to say, or any shout outs. Well, I just want to give a shout out to all the old school crews that just kept it real. Lost boys, sinister crowd, the wild ones, All those guys, Rebel alliance, rebels only. Even to the crews that came after us, you know like the outlaws, the kreaterz, and all you guys that kept it going still. I wish it would come back one day at least for a little bit, but we'll see what happens man...
