Turning the wizard to a cat.

When you start the game the first thing you will probably see is the wizard, and most likely he will tell you to do something.  My suggestion is to do it.  If you don't the wizard will eventually punish you in various ways.  This doesn't really affect the game, but it's time consuming and can be rather dull, depending on what your punishment is.  Wander through the house familiarizing yourself with it, until the wizard appears and tells you he is going on a journey.  During this time you have temporary freedom.  While the wizard is at home you basically can't leave the house, so take advantage of his journeys.  Obviously while the wizard is still part of your life you can't accomplish anything.  So the first step in the game is to get rid of the wizard.  The first thing you need to do is to get the map from the house.  Go upstairs to the wizard's bed room and open the door to the wardrobe.  Look behind the clothes and you will find the map.  While you're in the room you also might want to get a few other items for future use.  A mirror is in one drawer, the rose pedal essence is in the other, and a key is on top of the wardrobe.  After you get the map you are ready to venture out into the real world.  Walk out of your door and carefully down the path.  At the bottom of the path walk down 1 screen and to the left 1 screen.  You should see a tree with acrons around it.  Take the acorns.  Then reach into the hole.  A ladder will fall down.  Save.  Then climb up the ladder and walk into the treehouse.  If the thug is awake you will probably die.  If the thug is asleep or gone take the purse on the table and leave the treehouse.  After you have the purse feel free to wander around in the outside world.  Don't walk to the left past the desert because you will get lost.  The wizard will be gone approxamately 30 minutes (there is a clock at the top of the screen).  You need to be back by the time the wizard gets back or else he will kill you.  Wander around until you find a house with a garden out front.  Go inside.  If one of the bears answers the door leave and try again.  Once inside, take the small bowl of porridge.  DON'T EAT IT.  Next go to the store (1 screen right and 1 screen up from the house with the porridge) and buy fish oil.  Pet the dog.  Now is the time to learn the wonders of the map.  Look at the map (F4) and use the arrows to position yourself to the house.  The closest you can get to the house using the map is the bottom of the path.  Go there and climb up the path to the house.  Once inside find the cat.  Pick it up.  Most likely this will take several tries.  Take his fur and put him down.  Then go up to your bedroom (the room all the way to the right of the hallway on the second floor.)  Hide the stuff under your bed.  After you hide your stuff wander around until the wizard come home.  If you take anything, check your inventory (push tab) and make sure it doesn't have a (*) by it.  If it does, it needs to be hidden under your bed.  While you are waiting you can do various chores, and if you go in the kitchen you can take the food on the table, the knife and spoon on the back wall, and the bowl on the left side shelf.  You can also take the tin cup on the dining room table.  When the wizard returns he will be hungry.  You can feed him with the food you found in the kitchen if you want to.  A little bit after the wizard eats he will either leave again or take a nap.  Most of the time he will take a nap.  Here you have several options.  You can do the next step while he is sleeping, you can wait until he leaves again, or you can wake him up, but that will result in some form of punishment.  If you do it while he's sleeping, make sure you have all of the items you need and save first.  Go upstairs to your bedroom and take the stuff you have hidden under your bed.  Look at your inventory and  make sure you have all of the ingredients you need (you won't have the mandrake root powder).  You also need to have the bowl, spoon, and key.  After you have everything you need go downstairs to the study/library.  Unlock the cabinet on the left side of the room (it is pink) and take the wand.  Then go to the right side of the room, to the bookshelf, and type "move book".  A lever will appear.  Move the lever.  Go down into the secret room.  Go to the shelf on the back wall and get the mandrake root powder.  Go the the big open book opposite the shelf and turn to page XXV.  Do the "Transforming Another Into A Cat" spell.  Go back upstairs and move the lever and book back to their original positions and replace the wand.  Go back to your room and hide your stuff.  Get the porridge and the cookie back out.  Crumble the cookie into the porridge and go back downstairs and wait for the wizard to return.  When the wizard returns he will be ready to eat.  Give him the porridge and watch the results!
