| It all started one cool morning in early May of 2000. This was Kitty's first (and only) litter. She went into labor and progressed enough to start pushing the first kitten out. But then we saw that she couldn't get any farther then that - the poor kitten was stuck. I had been wondering if this would happen, as Kit is such a little girl. A shot of Pitocin from the vet didn't help anything, so it was decided to do a C-section. We asked that she be spayed at the same time. When we called the clinic later, they told us that she had given birth to 5 kittens, only 3 of which survived. We were able to bring Kit and the kittens home that evening....she was still 'out', but the kittens were able to nurse and be with her. They were so tiny; just about 3 inches long. They were all white; one with black spots, one with gray spots, and one with orange spots. Kit's mom, Patches, had 4 kittens who were 10 days older then these 3, so they all grew up together and were great buddies. When it came time for them to go to new homes, we simply could not bear to part with the sweetest of them all; Kit's biggest boy, the one with orange spots. We named him Peaches 'N Cream, but he is more commonly known as simply 'Peaches'. |
