About Scholarships
The Duane Roberts Memorial Scholarship was established in
memory of former KPS Board Member, Duane Roberts. Recipients must be academic
achievers and demonstrate commitment to social justice.
The Paul Henry Smith Memorial Scholarship honors former
Kalamazoo Central scholar-athlete, Paul Henry Smith. Recipients are nominated by the
Kalamazoo Central High School athletic department and have distinguished themselves as
scholar-athletes.
The Brady and Patrick Gallagher Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Brady and Patrick who
were Loy Norrix High School graduates. Applicants must demonstrate academic
achievement and talent for the visual and/or performing arts.
The Loy Norrix Memorial Scholarship was named for past
Kalamazoo Public School Superintendent, Loy Norrix, The scholarship recognizes
graduating seniors from Loy Norrix and Kalamazoo Central high schools who have earned the
highest grade point average.
The Nathaniel McCaslin Early Incentive
Scholarship was established in tribute to Nathaniel McCaslin, WMU Professor
Emeritus, KPEF founding board member and Kalamazoo Board of Education Trustee.
McCaslin scholars are selected as eighth graders based on potential for academic
success. Scholars may receive mentoring and educational enrichment support
throughout high school and a scholarship award upon graduation from a KPS high school.
The Timothy John Cain Memorial Fund was established in memory of Timothy Cain who attended Milwood Elementary
and Milwood Middle Schools before graduating from Loy Norrix High School in 1976.
The fund provides scholarships for Milwood Elementary students to attend summer enrichment
programs related to art, music and science.
The Melissa
Wroblewski Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Melissa Wroblewski, daughter of KPS educators
Carol Ann and David Wroblewski. The scholarship recognizes a student who, like
Melissa, demonstrates an interest and ability in the visual arts.
The B.R. Swarts Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of B.R.
Swarts, a technical assistant with KPS Education for Employment.
The Kay LaBonte Memorial Fund provides support for an annual student recognition award, development of a
permanent student art collection and exhibit at Milwood Middle School, and an annual
"Artist-in-Residence" program.
Friends, in memory of Judy Johnson, KPS Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Instruction established the Judy Johnson
Memorial Fund. The fund
provides financial support for KPS students to pursue summer education and enrichment
opportunities.
The Kalamazoo Public Education Foundation Scholarship is an endowed fund that
provides a $1000 annual scholarship to a graduation KPS senior planning to pursue a
teaching career. The scholarship award is renewable throughout the student's four
years of college.
