Turn the radio off
Its no secret that Im not a big radio fan. This is mainly due to the music that is played. I can tolerate some DJs and occasionally, I find myself in positions that don't allow me to choose what I listen to. On the days of the college bus for example, you dont argue with the bus driver whats blarting out of the speakers. Over recent times, I've started to make some observations on todays radio. Although its not suprising that the overall standards of radio have declined, theres one radio station thats really gets on my tits and deserves it decline in popularity. Look at whats on a weekday morning for example:
Honestly, I dislike the radio, so its not like Im purposley in favour for Wogan. Im just happy to report that Radio 1's bullshit is slowly on the decline. Its unlikely that coxy will be presented another contract, like she deserves it anyway.
Heres what needs to be done to let radio 1 get back to be number 1:
Cut the crap:
Coxy and moyles need to be axed (I don't listen to the radio much but I assume that there are other crappy DJs too). When you wake up or indeed, come home from work, you don't want to listen to the cock presenting the radio show with another ego inflation and them screaming down the microphone. Have you ever heard moyles when he gets excited? My 5 year old cousins make less noise than him. Radio 1 needs to bin these in-yer-face presenters and replace them with someone who doesn't care about trying to be famous and, hell, someone whos actually funny.
Change the music:
Its not obvious is it? When my pop-loving sister gets sick of Gareth Gates new single and radio 1 are still playing it, that shows something is wrong. Finally, people are getting sick of all the bullshit music that keeps gettting played and want something thats original. There are countless punk bands who sing about this sort of stuff - NoFX's 'Please play this song on the radio' springs to mind. Im not even saying that we should play lots of punk on the radio, but a variety in the music would be better than all the shite that currently gets undeserved air-time. If pop music is on the decline popularity wise, then the radio 1 executives should carefully think about what they play.
Insert randomness:
Sadly, radio 1 often makes deals with record companies to play their crap. Example:
Record company boss: Hello Radio 1 executive
Radio 1 executive: Hello Record company boss
RCB: I will give you 200,000 if you play gareth gates single 40 times this week
R1E: Duuurrrh.... Okay
Now, radio 1 has to find air space to play this crap 40 times in a weeks worth of time. Remember though, there could be several deals going on at the same time so thats a lot of songs to be playing - over and over.
Now, radio 1 has to find air space to play this crap 40 times in a weeks worth of time. Remember though, there could be several deals going on at the same time so thats a lot of songs to be playing - over and over. Radio 2 hasn't any fixed music schedual, so plays what it feels like at the time. Its this randomness that keeps radio 2 listeners hooked. They'll be listening to hear some classics, but what could it be..? Could it be 'wonderwall'? Could it be 'White wedding' today? (okay maybe not that), but when you listen to radio 1 you know what to expect: the 'hits' of today. Repeated over and over again - this tends to get boring.
Stop bumming genres:
Not only do us punkus rockus fans have to endure shite during the week, but at the weekends too! I remember (whilst working at charlies hand car wash) that every sunday morning 10am - 2pm there would be the r'n'b chart. Lovely. For the R'n'b fans. So anybody else who doesn't like R'n'b switches off and radio 1 loses a large chunk of listeners. If us rock fans have to wait until 1am for the rock to start why dont the R'n'b-ers? During the day, a variety should be played to keep more people happy. Anyway, there are radio stations dedicated to specific genres so radio 1 should play a variety. Why would we need two stations playing r'n'b? If radio 1 insists of still have genre sessions, then why not include a decent rock session mid-day? (decent being NOT being nickleback or alien ant farm). So what if some of the listeners are scared away? Isn't that what they are doing by playing r'n'b during the day? Bullshit.
Refrain from being pseudo rebellious:
Coxy likes to think that shes a bit on the wild side by allowing the naughty word of 'crap' to slip out of her mouth -on air of course - and even said that the queen mum smells of wee (when she was alive - god only knows what she smells of now). However, when Ali G made an appereance on the coxies show, he let rip and swore and made some cool sexual suggestions. Coxy shat her pants and all this rebellious stuff stopped; she kept apologising - live on air for Mr. Gs antics - and cried when the show was over. Yeah, way to go coxy. A real rebel would have laughed at Mr. G and not got in a hissy fit over what the radio 1 bosses would say.
Less chin-wag:
Lets face it, most of us get pissed of with the DJs. Even wogan can piss you off talking inbetween songs. The main reason to listen to the radio is for the music, so when the DJ is blabbering on, you might fall into the catergory of pissed-offy-ness. It sure is nice to host competitions and such on the radio, but who wants that when you could be listening to music?
Actually, fuck the radio in its metal ass. Who wants to listen to it when you can simply slip on your own music with the handy inventions of a CD player? No Djs, no adverts, no tunes that you don't like - hey now thats music to my ears.... mwhahahahaha!!!!!
**Seeing as I was on the topic of Ali G before, I might as well mention the funny thing he said to coxy: (and im not going to write in ali's language as many writers do)  ALI G: Coxy, why don't you and Zoe Ball lezz it? It wont be the first time a cox and a ball have got together.   Pesonally found that a pant yellowing experience**
