A brief history of Sirkali Town
Sirkali is one of Tamilnadu's smaller city,located about 270 kilometers from Chennai.Both Mailaduthurai
and Chidambaram are neighbouring towns situated at a distance of 20 kilometers each from central Sirkali
.The world famous late carnatic singer Sirkali Govindarajan was born in this town his musical
talent has been known throughout the world among the tamil speaking communities.Sirkali is also the headquarter of
many neighbourhood villages, including the ancient sea port city Poombugar,Tharagumbadi,
Thirumulai Vasal,Vadagal and Kovilpathu.
The main highlight of this city is the cultural diversities,people from different
cultures,religions,and languages live together.The town has a big ancient Hindu temple
in the heart of the city,the temple becomes too crowed during the Thirumulaipal
festive seasons.
Textiles stores and pawn shops occupy about 60% of the city business sectors,
there are three major higher secondary schools, L.M.C higher secondary school,S.M.H.H.S school
,Siyamala girl high school and many elementary schools.
Thirumulai Vasal
Thirumulai vasal is a small village located near Indian ocean, 13 kilometers from Sirkali town,
It is a nice spot to spend the hot summer days with the smooth breeze of the sea air,
it is also a city of the local fishermen where fresh fishs,shrimps,and craps are sold cheap.
Kovilpathu
Kovilpathu is a small village located about 4 kilometers from Sirkali.Life in this village
is slow and monotonous but it is a very beautiful village surrounded by evergreen nature
.The livelihood of these villagers are dependant on agriculture.Since Kovilpathu is a small village
almost everyone knows
each other,the village has a population of about 3000 families and has a mix of culture from
Hindu to Muslim to Christian
.This village has a primary school from grade 1 to 5 and a secondary school
from grade 6 to 10 .
