1. Research your president BEFORE you make your outline.  You need to know what information you have before you can decide what to write about.

2. When you find a source,
IMMEDIATELY write down the important information:
a) Author
b) Title
c) Publishing Information (year published, city published, & publishing company)

3. Keep track of all sources for your Works Cited page.  This page is a list of all sources you used in writing your speech, whether you cited it or not.

4. Use a different color note card for each type policy.

5. Keep track of sources with direct quotes.

*  Internal citations, parenthetical references You need one of these per paragraph.
You DO NOT use quotation marks for this type of reference.  This is done in parenthesis at the end of the paragraph that has the cited material.
Ex.  (Authors Last Name, page numbers)

*  Direct Quotes You need at least one.
Try to find out slogans, famous phrases, ideas he used during his presidency.  For this, you use the same method as the internal citation except that you put the citation in quotes.

*  Works Cited Page At the end of the paper.
This cites all the materials you used to write your paper, whether you cited it or not.
