Web languages

The plain old HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the basic language you need to know if you work or want to work with web pages for the Internet. You can also use WYSWYG Editors like FrontPage, Dreamweaver and others to create web pages, but that's another subject. And knowing HTML gives you more control over the look and feel of a web page.

However, HTML only isn't enough if you intend to make an interactive page (meaning that the page reacts in some way to the surfers actions), one that has rollover effects, checks if a form is correctly submitted, perhaps with some animations or similar. For that purpose it's useful if you have some knowledge of JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and DHTML (Dynamic HTML).
It isn't necessary you know all of them, since you can find a lot of free code on the Web you can use, but a basic knowledge of them would make it easier for you to adjust such code snippets to your needs.

Besides the above mentioned languages, there are also some other languages that are used on the Internet, like Java, XML, PHP, Perl and others. But I'll concentrate on this site only at HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
