                                                NATO

NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO, an alliance that was an effect of World War II and the Cold War, contains nineteen member nations.    An attack to any of these members would be an attack against all.  These members are:  United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Spain.
Only eleven of these nineteen states contributed forces, equipment, or money to Operation Allied Force.  In 1999, NATO decided to bomb certain Serbian targets to stop the advancement of Serbian Troops in Kosovo, and also to stop the violence towards the Kosovar Albanians.
