Introduction to Deja Vu

There are many heroes whose deeds are famous in the songs and tales of bards. The mighty band who stopped the endless eclipse brought about by mind flayers, the noble merfolk who saved their undersea city from certain doom, and dozens of others are immortalized in the minds of countless generations. One thing all of those legendary heroes have in common is that they were victorious. Victory is one thing the six adventurers who went against the evil liche Rosenthal did not have - and so their names have been forgotten by nearly all in the thousand years since their defeat.

It was late spring when Sir Aisakos led five of his friends in a raid on Rosenthal's Synagogue of Doom. Word had reached them that Rosenthal had recently built some kind of ultra-golum, more powerful than any seen before. Sure that this was the first step in some fiendish scheme, the party traveled to the Synagogue of Doom, intending to destroy the golum and his maker.

The zombie guardians around the Synagogue were easily dispatched. Quickly the party made their way towards Rosenthal's inner sanctum. Suddenly, they heard loud footsteps - the ultra-golum was approaching. At Aisakos' orders the party took up hidden positions, ready to pounce on the golum in a full-proof plan of attack.

Alas, the plan was spoiled when Thomas Agrivas was spotted by the golum. Ten feet of clay, with sparkling jewel-encrusted eyes, the golum was an awesome sight. And its fury was tremendous - in moments Thomas lay dead, Lerellyn was unconsious, and three others of the party turned to stone or tasteful furniture. Only Aisakos was left standing. The golum turned his attacks on him, quickly bringing the battle to an end.

After this victory, the golum strode out into the world. He had enslaved Lerellyn, the only survivor of the battle, and soon he had conquered and enslaved an entire city. Through magics granted him by Rosenthal the golum created an army of terra cotta warriors, with which he launched wars on every neighboring city and village. Within twenty years he ruled a small nation, its people forced to slave in his mud mines under the pitiless direction of all manner of automatons. Zombies, skeletons, golums, even walking suits of armor - in the kingdom of the golum these animated servants rule over the lifers. It has been one thousand years since his victory over a woefully underprepared group of adventurers, and only a few people even remember that the battle took place.

There is a new hope for the mud spattered people of the golum's kingdom, however. Through the power of his magical sword Sir Aisakos managed to escape death at the golum's hands. Instead he was thrown forwards in time 1000 years after the battle. There he found the Synagogue of Doom quiet and unguarded. The stone form of one of his companions was there, as were the chair and footstool that had been two of his other friends. Sir Aisakos explored the area around the Synagogue, and managed to find and free the now ancient Lerellyn. Working together they were able to return the three others to their original forms. Joined by Thomas Agrivus XLVII, a descendent of their sixth party member, the party is now more or less reunited. Determined to make up for their disastrous first attempt, all have sworn to go against the golum once more as well as his evil master Rosenthal. Surely this time everything will go better...
