animal communications
stones known for increasing animal empathy: boji stones, enstatite, ivory, jasper, clear quartz, turritella agate, & sodalite. i'd include moldavite & selenite here as well for enhancing the communication/telepathy aspects, which i am using with some success. i wear a sodalite bracelet 24/7, plus i use all of the above except for the boji stones & enstatite.
please note that if you do pattern lay-outs which broadcast thru your house, or otherwise leave stones laying around or under your pillow, they may have a profound effect on others as well as yourself. this includes your pets.

now, i've heard it said you should never heal anyone without their permission. i assume this means active healing work, like laying stones on their chakras. however if you have stones broadcasting to heal yourself, well... maybe you won't be the only one affected. remember that a good crystal broadcast will cover your entire house, not just the room the stones are in. uh huh-- just a good old-fashioned crystal-set radio transmission. (quartz is a loud transmitter & so is moldavite. you can also use selenite.)

well.  that said, you can always put the stones away if you don't want to affect other people. or you can ask their explicit permission (i.e., be licensed to broadcast), if you want to be karmically above reproach. pets on the other hand tend to be a
little hard to get overt permission from. about all you can do is remove the animal from the house.  period. or you can remove the stones & use them only when the animal is outside. or you can blithely say, WHATEVER. if the cat gets stoned, then the cat gets stoned, right? hehehehe! ummm, you can maybe rationalize this, because animals tend to be a little psychic to begin with. YEAH! lots of animals see ghosts, right? YEAH! & if you happen to be "owned" by a cat, well... the cat KNEW what she was getting into when she karmically chose to be your owner. i mean, hey,  she chose the lifestyle, right? YEAH AGAIN! please note i was personally adopted by a stray, not the other way around, so... hehehe :P

now, i'd probably avoid willfully (& with malice aforethought) forcing healing stones onto a pet. this means laying crystals directly on their chakras is probably a big no-no. actively forcing pets to be stoned on stones is a bit karmically uncool. this is similar to people who put a pet's head in a bag & then blow pot smoke into it for laughs. & rover over there, he likes beer so much he's an alcoholic, we've been pouring it in his dish for years! well, most people know or have heard of someone who does this kind of thing. some people don't care. after all, animals are only food & test subjects. corporations put shampoo in their eyes all the time, right? well, if this is your attitude, you may be in for a surprise once your own empathy kicks in. as in, whoa-- animals have feelings, huh?

this would include laying stones directly on your pet's 3rd eye, tempting tho it may be. you
could end up with a psychic but extremely confused pet. one who has no idea why it's seeing strange phantasmagoria that isn't there & no idea why it can't catch it. just having stones broadcasting within range might cause chakra opening in pets. oops.

some people say if you wear sodalite & add sodalite to your pet's collar, this will increase your empathy with the animal. well, the purist would say, you didn't ask the pet if it wanted the sodalite in its aura, or even to have empathy with you forced upon it. sadly this might still be the equivalent of blowing pot smoke in the bag. because unfortunately you might find yourself doing some serious thinking about what the word "empathy" really means. you gaining increased empathy with animals is one thing, that's your free will. your pet gaining empathy with you is something else. now, my dictionary says the word "empathy" means "understanding another's thoughts, feelings & motivations as if they were one's own." most people don't clearly understand the implications of this. in our culture there's a lot of illusions about the concept of empathy, where it's seen as something noble & detached. maybe it can be, but the practical application is usually a little different. meaning some empaths suffer a great deal. (fortunately this phenomena is getting more recognition in recent years, & there are even clubs & groups for suffering empaths to get some solidarity.)  with this in mind, i wouldn't force a pet to wear ANY stone 24/7. cause maybe your pet would get really SERIOUSLY empathic, especially if it's naturally empathic to begin with. many cats instinctively sense when you feel lousy & will jump into your lap & purr & do their best to make you feel better. well & good, but you don't want to turn the animal into your personal psychic sponge. kitty might feel really really awful if you got sick or had surgery or something. & wouldn't you feel bad if you made poor kitty suffer along with you? being a long-time empath myself, my feelings would clearly be with the pet. & i have an aversion to collaring pets anyway
;P

SO. enough gloom & doom. the best way to gain 2-way animal empathy is either by the indirect method (you wear the stones, not the pet, which'll help you be more open to its moods & behaviors), or you let the pet decide for itself. this last is not as hard as it sounds. if it wants the stones in its aura, it'll seek them out on its own. many people like to charge their stones outside in sun or moon, & putting them on the ground is ideal for letting your pet get acquainted with your crystals. let them go sniff at them if they want to. if they want to return to sniff at them again, they will.  after you bring the stones back in the house, your pet might suddenly develop an interest in them. for example, nimue (my "owner") never jumped on counters or tables where she's not supposed to be. however, now that she's familiarized herself with my stones, she now jumps up to investigate when i'm laying out patterns. she follows me around sniffing & purring when i take out the selenite wand to clean my yard-cleaning stones. & if i'm wearing a medicine bag, instead of laying on my lap, she'll lay at a strange angle on my chest-- right on top of the bag. & purr. yep, she knows where they are
