My Dream Office
Saturday, August. 10, 2010
As future goes by, I foresee myself as the head of the accounting department of the company and is working inside my desired style of an office.
It was 8:00 in the morning and I was walking down the hallway seeing my co-workers busy in their cubicle room. I am heading through the glass door, the entrance to my office. As I reached the handle and pushed the door, I smelled the fresh aroma of the air freshener inside the room creating a comfortable atmosphere. It is a typical kind of an office. The walls were painted with turquoise blue creating an apt ambiance. Opposite the door are the big-screened sliding glass windows intersecting at the right corner. Through the windows, one can see tall buildings and can overlooked a block below. In the corner above the window lies an oval-shaped air conditioning unit emitting the cool moderate air. Below the windows are two adjacent wide four-foot wooden cabinets pressed against the wall. In front of the cabinet which is on the right side of the room is my maple-painted desk. Two cushioned wooden chairs opposite with each other is in front of it. On the table is my flat-screened office computer on the left, adjacent to it is the telephone and an ornamented pen holder. On the right is a bulk of paper works, and a lampshade. Behind my desk lies a black comfy swivel chair. Opposite to my desk is a coffee table with a small-scale replica of a ship as its centerpiece. Behind it is a white couch pushed to the wall. Above it are two frames of paintings. As I walk through the gray-colored carpet floor going towards my chair and ready to seat back, I passed by a natural-varnished shelf adjacent to the door containing a number of books connected to the company’s financial record. As I reached my chair, I seat back and turned to the bulk of paper works ready to do my report.

Effects of Facebook

Nowadays, as a result of modernization new ways of socialization has been developed. One of these is Facebook. Facebooking has becoming more and more popular as a means of socialization. As of today, most people either young or adult are hooked up with this so-called website because of socialization, entertainment and educational purposes. Facebook is a personalized account wherein you can display photos, post videos and express what you want to say and share it to your friends. This can be openly viewed to all of your friends and as a result, they have the freedom to comment on your posts. Commenting is the most commonly done in Facebook. Some comments can be a bit harsh. Due to this, conflict between people may arise. On the other hand, the main highlight of Facebook, as we all know, is finding and making friends and connecting with them. One important feature that connects friends is chatting. Chatting is basically communicating with friends, who are online; hence enabling you to connect with your friends and hear news from them. In effect, you become updated with the daily happenings of your friends. You can also asked and exchange short ideas using the chat box. This is a factor that enables you to broaden your ideas. Another thing about Facebook is that it can entertain like playing games, taking I.Q. test and others, thus it is viewed by adults as a medium for releasing stress from work. Therefore, Facebook can make them relieved. But if you spend too much time on this, you’d be addicted to it. For educational purposes, Facebook has groups that open forums or discussions about certain topics in which you are free to join. A consequence of joining groups is that it can increase your writing and reasoning ability of any matter where people may object about your opinion. Although Facebook has a positive goal, should we forget about the negative? Some of the members don’t only seek about friends but also relationships resulting in meeting with strangers or courting using Facebook. Isn’t that liberating? Another thing negative about Facebook is that members especially children became addicted to the games Facebook had created. If parents tolerate their children in doing so, then it is more than an entertainment, right? It might become an addiction and could lead to a more major consequence.
We have adopted this new way of socialization from foreign countries thus it may change our culture as Filipinos. If we totally adapt to this way of socialization, then that’s the time, we are the same like the other countries who once have a unique culture of their own. If we learn to balance our time in Facebook and other ways in socializing, then we'll going to have a lot of friends not only on internet but also in personal approach.

Education is just a Trend

Is education the solution to poverty? It is partly true nowadays. Due to the booming of modernization, competition among people rises. And as a result, criteria have been developed by many for them to choose who’s more capable among other. And as of now, educational attainment has been one of them. Many believed that education can be the key to success and yes, for some it is true. They have become wealthy and successful because of the degree they attained. They have solved their problem about poverty. What about the others? If we were to look on the other side of the issue, many people although finished up a degree are jobless and still in great poverty. Reasons are there are too many educated people, very little opportunities for jobs. Many are competent but few are chosen. To add up, there are these educated people whom get a job but then it is not they are meant to be. In other words, their job is not fit to what they have studied or finished for.
It’s not just about education that we can attain our goal and be able to get out of poverty. There are many factors that can alleviate people from poverty rather than just being educated. One very important factor is the character. Character possesses qualities like diligence and resourcefulness just to name some. Another factor is experience. It is the best teacher right? We were able to learn from the mistakes and experiences we have encountered. There are these uneducated people whom became well known of because of the positive attitude they have in mind. Take this as an example; Manny Pacqiao as we all know is one of the wealthiest people in the country right now. We also know that he only reached the elementary level when he became successful. Education is just added for him to be more ideal.
So to sum it up, education can be an asset to get us out of poverty. Education is not only the cause to get out of poverty; it has just been the ideal trend for us.

Cellphone Entrapment
Thursday, December 9, 2010
After the breakthrough of cellular phones in the late 1970’s, enhancements have been made to improve its features. More and more people especially teenagers tend to buy not just one but two or more of the latest cell phone. For the reason that they want to be connected with their friends and pals, makes their life more convenient and makes them in with the trend. However, cellular phones has influenced students more negative effects in lifestyle and values than it benefits.
First of all, the cellular phones have been considered a need – not just a luxury. Because the trend of having a cell phone is persuasive, every people especially teenagers and children in the country, rich or poor have cell phones. To make it tempting, features such as text messaging, camera, games, mp3, T.V. and others are added to enhance it and make it more in demand. As a result, people rely more upon it that makes a high dependency ratio of the people towards using cell phones which leads to laziness.
Moreover, the cellular phones have been the source of a deviant behavior. To define, deviant behavior is a term in sociology that states that behavior and values that does not follow what is acceptable in the society but it doesn’t have a law. Behavior like being lazy and liberated is developed as an effect of cellular phones. These then leads to deceit, scandals and phonesex for the latter. Laziness on the other hand, is also tolerated in cellular phones for the reason that it becomes a student’s priority over the things that is needed to be done.
In addition, cellular phones are used primarily for texting which affects our education. To name some, it reduces the capacity for grammar, spelling and formality. The interaction of the students towards other people, verbally and non-verbally has been lowered. As an example, students now a days, tend to tell their ideas and emotions by group messaging as a medium even if the class is still going on that makes it a factor of gaining nothing about the lecture. The art of speaking and writing tends to drop.
Cellular phones change the values and lifestyle of the students. the changes of cellular phones is its becoming in demand to everybody, its becoming a factor in developing deviant behavior among students and its being a hindrance for the education of students. Cell phone has the purpose of communicating for a significant reason. There should be a way to get out of this cell phone entrapment.
