| Chapter 4 So, you must Joey. Jack said with a smile on his face while rolling the chair over to me. Am I gonna have to lift you to place you in this chair or can you stand? Im not to sure at the moment. Maybe if I use you for support and try to get down, I wont have to break your back or injure myself even more. Okay. Here Ill put my arm around your back and Ill give you a little lift and you can put your feet on the floor. Okay. On three, 123 Upsie daisy. He gave me a small lift and I was slowly descending onto the floor. I wince. Oh, God, that hurt. You okay? he asks me with concern. Oh, just dandy. Get me into the damn chair and all will be okay. I said with sarcasm and he just smiled at me while he placed me carefully into the chair. Once situated, I let out a breath that I didnt realize I was holding. I so am not ready to walk on my own yet. I could really kill him for what he did to me. You okay there, youre not in any pain are you? he asked with a desperation in his voice to not have caused me any pain. Nope, Im good. Get me to a bed and Ill be even better, if you dont mind? I ask him hoping that hell comply. This way I can get all the pain over with at once. Well, at least I hope. Alright then, lets get going. He said with a sigh of relief and began to push me towards the door. That will soon lead to my room. Then onwards to my bed where I can rest and sleep. Sleep, thats a laugh. Like Im really going to get any. Every time I close my eyes, the back of my lids become a movie screen to playback what happened tonight. Its going to be a looong night. I cant wait. We make a right out of the door and begin our journey down the corridor. We pass one door. Two doors. Three. Four. At the fifth door, we make another right, into the room that he and I will be occupying for the next 24-hrs as Dr. Witter had said earlier. I cant believe Im quoting him. Jack rolls me over to the bed where I shall sleep, or at least try to. Right now I am dreading the transition from chair to bed. I know I can do it, but the pain from earlier has subdued itself and its going to come back, only this time, worse. Ugh. Well, here we are. Room, sweet, room. he says, as he spreads his arms out gesturing to the four walls around us. I cross my arms over my chest and reply dully, How wonderful, and I give him a tight grin. He just looks at me and laughs. Before I can continue, I am interrupted by a voice. Do you think you could at least try sounding grateful? asked Dr. Witter as he walked in the room. He came over to where I was sitting and turned me around to face him He continues, I could have always left you there lying on the sidewalk. I didnt have to rescue you. With a smug grin on his lips he waited for me to answer. Oh, I dont know, I thought the side walk was perfectly fine. It was nice and cool against my hot body. Youre right, you didnt have to rescue me. But where would the fun be in that? I asked him, while giving him a challenging look. There was no question in whether or not I was going to rescue you. Even if it wasnt part of my job description, Id still rescue you. So youre going to have deal with it. He said as went to where Jack was standing. I so have a good reply to your last statement. I really should keep my mouth shut. I really, really should. Ah! What the hell, I thought doctors were supposed to be nice to their patients. He turned around towards me and his mouth just dropped. Well, I ask him, are you going to answer me? He closed his mouth and just stared at me. His eyes wide, disbelieving of what I just said. He slowly closes the tablet in his hand and closes his eyes tightly, trying not to say something wrong to me. I am trying so hard not to smile. Ah! He speaks! Well, I usually am, but since you decided to get defensive on me, yet again, I just decided to play along with your little game. He turned to leave, but stopped and turned around. Have a good night Ms. Potter, see you in a bit. And he was gone. Me and my stupid big mouth. |
