LadyKats Schedule

Nov. 12 ---   Harrison (H)
Well, the season has started and it looks like we are going to have a great one as we have a group of ladies who want this one real bad. They opened the season with a win over Harrison by the score of 66 to 50. This one as usual was a team effort with everyone giving thier all. Great opener, my ladies.

   Nov. 15 ---   Noblesville (T)
Wow, we took our game to Noblesville on this night and we got a real test by a very good Miller team. It took all the ladies to pull this one out and a great team effort it was. The ladies hung in there and pulled it out by a score of 54 to 52. If the teacher was grading this one , I would say that they passed the test. I must say that these ladies are going to open a lot of eyes before the season is over.

   Nov. 22---Lafayette Jeff (T)
Kokomo's LadyKats went to Lafayette this Friday evening to take on the Jeff girls and they were playing one of the best players in the conference in Liz Honegger. But they were up to the task by playing thier usual team ball and that spark coming at the times when they needed it and they took this one by the score of 59 to 53. Great ball handling by the guards and great positioning under the basket. Not too many times does a visitor win at Crawley Center, but our girls were not to be denied. Great job, my ladies, as we win # three this year in our quest to be the very best at the end of the year. Next we play at home and this old man will be there to help lead them on.

   Nov. 23----McCutcheon (H)
This night it was McCutcheon coming to Memorial Gym to test our LadyKats, and we knew that this game would not produce too many points as McCutcheon always plays a controlled type of game. We ended the half just 2 points ahead at 21 to 19, and Charlie went to work with his halftime discussion with the girls and it showed as our ladies were able to stretch the lead while holding the Lady Mavs to only five points. In the last quarter, the Mavs got a taste of thier own medicine as we went into a delayed type of game waiting for them to come out to get us thus opening the basket underneath. They didn't choose to come out much and so that is how this game ended with Kokomo winning 44 to 33. Another great win over a tough opponent.

    Nov. 30 ----Lake Central (H)
The LadyKats played an afternoon game on this Saturday, and although it was very cold outside, it was hot inside as our Ladies went on a rampage scoring in one run at a pace of 34 to 6. The game was normal until that run. Our LadyKats welcomed Lake Central to Memorial Gym, and then sent them home. LadyKats won by a score of 63 to 35 for win #5. Great day for all of us on the floor and in the stands.

  Dec. 5     ----  Anderson (T)
Our LadyKats went to Anderson thursday night and they took this one by a score of 75 to 46. Fifty two points of that total were evenly scored by four players. Thatcher, Hayes, Hendrix, and Thompson each had 13 points. This was a game of complete execution by Kokomo The bench proved that they can at any time come in and keep the game going. And as always this old man is very proud of my LadyKats. Keep the string going girls, and have fun doing it.

Dec. 10  ------ Western (T)
Our LadyKats went to the west this night to take on county rival Western, and they showed why they are the top team in the state. This was a great game played by all the girls and was one that showed the team play of Ashley Hayes and the rest of the starting five. Many times Askley had an open shot but passed it in to one of the others who had a better shot. I sat in the crowd proud of this type of play and the score of 76 to 34 was the final. Great game again by a great group of ladies.

Dec. 13  --Marion - DH (T)
The LadyKats went to Marion tonight to play in a double header with the Wildkat boys team. The girls took the floor first and it Katie bar the door as our girls smackdab laid one beating on the Marion girls. This was another of those games where teamplay is easily seen by the fans. Once again our girls took it right to the opponents and the result was a score of 66 to 29. Great going my fair ladies as anytime we beat Marion, we can sleep great that night

      Dec. 19---Huntington North (T)
Once again, our LadyKats went to play at the other team's gym to take on the #10 Lady Vikings of Huntington North. Huntington North always comes up with great teams and they are sort of in a building program now. Our Ladies took it right to them , even though the Vikings were about as physical as can be. We took this one by a score of 49 to 37. That is win # 9 for our LadyKats who are through for this year and will get back into action in the new year. Great year so far by a group of great young ladies who play team ball and are about the most unselfish team I have witnessed. Merry Christmas to the LadyKats of Kokomo High School.

Jan. 4--------New Castle (T)
Well Cristmas break is over and our Ladies went to New Castle to take on the Lady Trojans in another NCC game. New Castle has always been a sleeper in that they can knock you off on a good night. Our LadyKats were up for the task as they took it right to them . A couple of times it looked like we were going to blow them out but they kept coming back. Our ladies finally took this one by a score of 63 to 50, to stay perfect for the year and also in the NCC. And to top off the win with two of our ladies, Ashley Hayes & DeUnna Hendrix reaching the 1000 point club, it was like a double thickness of icing on the cake. This was like always a team effort by all the girls on the team. Yea LadyKats.

Jan. 8----------------Peru (H)
Man, on this night we as fans of the Kokomo Lady Wildkats, were treated to a game played almost to perfection. Coach Hall sort of changed the starting line-up, putting in some that had sat on the bench until needed to come in and play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Fourteen LadyKats scored in this one and you should of seen the defensive effort put forth by the whole team. We really got a good look at what we will see next year, but these girls want to do it all this year. Anyway the final score was 97 to 41 against a Peru team that might be great next year. As this writer has stated before, you get your money's worth when you go see a LadyKat's game. The streak this year is at 11 with no defeats, and we are just warming up. Great game by my Ladies this night.

Jan. 11--------------Penn (H)
The LadyKats played one of those afternoon games on Saturday against a team from Penn up north, but played it at home. This one started out looking like it might be a close one, but with a great defensive effort by all on the floor, Penn just wasn't able to open it up. This was a sloid game with Coach Hall using as many players as he could. Looks like he is getting all of them ready for the Chicago venture and then the tourney. The LadyKats won this one by the score of 49 to 31. As I have stated before this is a very un-selfish group of ladies who play team ball and they watch for the open player. Great game once more.

Jan. 14------------Carmel (T)
The LadyKats went out on a very cold night to Carmel to take on a very tough team and they warmed that fieldhouse up with another great game by the entire team. The final score was 56 to 43, and it was a two minute break of ten points by our ladies that broke the back of the Carmel team. The gals off the bench did thier usual great relief job as well as the starters holing thier own. Great team effort for The LadyKats team as they are ready to invade Chicago next. Thanks My fair ladies for another satisfying night.

Jan. 17-Chicagoland Classic
Our beloved LadyKats took thier class to Chicago in the Chicagoland Classic to play Neuqua Valley from Naperville , Illinois, and they did thier homework on the floor as they took out the other team with a great effort of team play and desire to show thier fans that the # 1 ranking is for real. To go so far away and yet have fans follow is a great feeling and our girls never backed down on a very cold night outside but warm inside. The score of this one in the favor of our Kats was 62 to 58. Boy, do we love those girls.

Jan. 18-Chicagoland Classic
Well the ladies stayed overnight in Chicago to play the second game the next morning against Buffalo Grove, and although they were tired, they put on a show of Indiana basketball as they took this one by the score of 51 to 40. it was another great job of the second five coming in to protect and extend the lead. What a great show of what these ladies are made of. They did us proud and please get them home safe.

Jan. 21-------Logansport (H)
On this cold Tuesday evening after a cold but fun trip to The Chicagoland Classic, our LadyKats took on Logansport at home in another NCC game and as usual the team attitude and unselfish play took the Kats to victory. After winning the last three games in eight days the LadyKats played hard basketball in taking out the Logan girls with ease. Everyone got into the game tonight and did us proud. We won by the score of 73 to 29, extending thier lead in the NCC. Another night of the greatest play by our ladies.

Jan. 25--Muncie Central (T)
The LadyKats took off for Muncie Central on another cold day, but once there, they warmed the fieldhouse up with another suberb game of basketball. They started out with a 27 point first quarter and sailed from there. They took this one by a score of 70 to 30 with great play from thier starters and great backup from the bench. As you know, I try not to single out any one player in a game, because this team is a team made up of the most un-selfish girls ever. There is a great attitude of helping out that I have never seen before. These girls have fun out there on the floor and they get the job done. They now have at least a share of the conference championship , and should wrap it up next week. Thanks my ladies for the intertainment and satisfaction.

Jan. 29---------Frankfort (H)
Another great night of basketball was in store for the fans of The Kokomo Lady Kats as they opened the doors to The Frankfort Lady Hot Dogs. This was no Kat and Dog fight as our ladies were up to the task of taking out the visitors and sending them home to HotDog Land. Our team started tonight Gretchen Hendrix in place of cousin DeUnna and she did one heck of a great job until while trying to take a ball away, she fell breaking two teeth in the process. But on this team there is always someone on the bench that can come in and do a great relief job. Our LadyKats took this one by the score of 76 to 49, while throwing up 11 three-pointers. Another night of great team play and unselfish behavior. You can sit at one of these games and adopt all those girls for that one night as they are your children out there playing for you and the city of Kokomo. The people who stay at home or do other things, don't know what they are missing by not seeing this team play. Thanks Ladies for another great night.

Feb. 1--------Richmond (H)
We sat there in the Memorial Gym on this day to watch our beloved LadyKats play a ballgame that was to be the end of the quest for the NCC championship and the end of an era where six seniors finished out thier road to success as Kokomo Lady Wildkats. And that era was a very successful one as these seniors were only defeated twice while winning 39 games in this great gym. Here is a group of girls who represent the school and the city and they did it well. On this day, they took on the Richmond girls and they showed why they can be rated #1 in the state. They took this one by a score of 76 to 29 and they did it in the way that they have all season, unselfish and team involved. Great game by the starters and great bench work from the others. They have one more game to go to finish up undefeated, and we hope the best for them. Thanks LadyKats for another fun day at the gym.

Feb. 5-----North Central (T)
Well they did it again, winning at North Central on this Wed. night to complete a perfect regular season at 20 wins & no losses. This group of young ladies represented Kokomo High School and the City of Kokomo in a way that we can be proud of. Because of health reasons I did not go to any out of town games this year, bu my heart and the hearts of all thier fans followed them everywhere they played. In this game, they won by a score of 54 to 41, against a school that always has a great team. They fought hard and in the last minute, they showed why they are rated #1 in the state. Teams are rated as to what they do on the floor in a game with pressure, and with physical power. Our LadyKats passed the test. Great going LadyKats for a game well played and now we get ready for the state tournament, where it is one loss and you are out. We hope the best for each of you as you represent us in the game that Indiana has been the hotbed.

"2003 IHSAA 4A SECTIONAL AT HARRISON"

Well, it is that time of the year when you have to win or it is go home, and our girls are in the Harrison sectional and they recieved a bye and they took on Marion on this cold Friday evening , and cold it was for a while as the girls had to get the rust out of their bones in order to play the usual brand of basketball, that we see each night they play. They did come out on top tonight by the score 55 to 37. Once again it was the starters that got the team going and the reserves who maintained the same type of play. Hopefully the legs will be ready and the heart will be pumping, and the girls are ready to take the game to McCutcheon in the final game
The LadyKats are ready tonight here at Harrison, after a snow delay, to take on McCutcheon for the sectional championship and the right to move on to the second stage of the LadyKats quest to win the state championship here in 2003. McCutcheon put on thier usual control game and waited until they had a sure shot at the basket. This worked for a while but our LadyKats worked thier defense at the same time and the strength of our girls ruled over the McCutcheon girls to a score of 40 to 37. Once again it was the timely subs that did the job as we kept fresh people on the floor. Kokomo is the winner of this first step to Indy.

"2003 ISHAA 4A REGIONAL AT HUNTINGTON"

Kokomo played in the second game of this regional against Carroll who plays about the same brand of ball our Kats do and this looks to be one heck of a game. Another cold day outside and a litle cold in the game as we got off to a slow start playing a team that had some great shooters. But our girls just do not get riled up just because they are behind and they used thier strength in thier legs to take them over the Carroll team and on to victory at a score of 58 to 45.
In the final game of this Huntington Regional, our LadyKats had to take on another NCC school, New Castle, and did we have a scare from this team that we have defeated the last few years. But in the tourney, all records go out the window as everyone knows that it is win or go home. New Castle just would not give up and they led this game almost to the last few minutes. But here came the team play, the unselfish play of each team member and they looked for the open player and they came out on top of this one by a score of 51 to 48. Another step taken on thier way to the state title.

The 2003 ISHAA 4A SEMISTATE AT PLYMOUTH

Well the LadyKats took thier game to the semistate to play South Bend Riley. This was a great tem that Riley had and it finished last year as the runners-up at the state level. So they were going to use that experience against our LadyKats to win another ticket to Indy. But no one told our girls that they had no chance to win this game and they came out and played thier hearts out with probaly the most complete game ever. The seniors were not to be denied as they fired from all angles of the floor and they rebounded and they fought with desire. Our LadyKats took this one by a score of 72 to 60 and they and the bench made it known that they are headed to Indy to take it all. We wish each of them the best and we hope that they will bring home the championship. Go Ladies and continue to play your game
"The 2003 ISHAA 4A STATE FINALS AT INDIANAPOLIS"

The Lady Wildkats took thier show to Indy in thier quest to be the 4A champions here in the basketball capital of the world. They started off slow, but sure, with Perry Meridian wanting the same championship and with the desire and talent they had, our ladies were in for a battle. The first half was about even with our ladies holding a small edge, but in the second half we went colder than an ice cube still in the freezer. That 3rd quarter would of sent many teams home, what with the shots coming up short, and the other team holding on to a lead. But that is where this team of young ladies dig way down into that desire to take home the crown and in the 4th quarter they came back to tie and to take the lead. This is a sign of a champion and our girls did what they wanted to do since they first put on a jersey. Bring home the 4A championship. What a wonderful way to end the season. Thanks ladies for all the fun.
