I was captain on Merchant Navy for many years. My imagination, sometimes was creating questions of how hard should be for the sailing masters of that era, to manage crew, weather and ship. Knowing that all these questions would be without reply, I decided to enter into that legentary part of history by constructing these sailing ships. I admire the ships of the 16th 17th and 19th centuries, considering them as jewels of shipbuilding.
Born with the talent to curve the wood and with the help of plans, found long before in Italy, I started years ago to build those sailing boats. I use to take raw hard wood and with tools, sometimes made by myself, lay the keel and join the frames then follows the planking. Then, I curve the fore and aft decorations with hard wood, fabricate with small lathe, and fit the canons. Then, the varnishing and in the end I fit the rigging with all blocks made all by hand.
Hundred small items made by hand, compose the whole construction which sometimes takes months to be completed. My first ship was the BOUNDY then the ESSEX, and followed the GOLDEN HIND, the BLUE SHADOW, and many others. Presently I am completing the FRIESLAND a Dutch warship of 16th century famous for her aft decoration. The models which I made till now, were subjects of admiration and praising comments. One French and one Greek newspaper had in the past, extended article about my work. Anybody interesting about my work or want to exchange ideas is welcomed in my e-mail
