Girl's Dress
Boy's Vest
My competition was to make a school dress.  Since my school's name is Tir na Webfeis I decided to base my design on the story the school's name is taken from Tir na nOg.   One of the important "characters" in the story is the horse our hero is not allowed to get off of, so I put a celtic horse on the dress.  Since the schools color is orange, the dress and all embroidery is based on the orange/gold palate.
The dress is two pieces, a top and a skirt.  When worn they look as if they are one piece because the top is tucked in the skirt.  The top  actually ends eight to ten inches below the waist so it does not become untucked while doing figures.  The top can be taken off when the dancer is hot without compromising mosesty.

The dress and vest material is a poly/cotton blend with stiffeners in the dress's skirt.  This will make the dress and vest cool in the summer and very light to carry around.  It will also make it easy to wash at home.

The cape is of a long strip of gold lame (I know it looks orange) gathered at the shoulder and pinned and then gathered at the waist and pinned also.  The cape should end a couple of inches above the skirt bottom.

The boy's costume is the vest pictured above with the traditional black pants and long sleeved white shirt.  I would also put a miniature version of the horse on the collar ends and also a five to seven inch tall version exactly between the knee and the ankle on the side of the pants.  This is not pictured because of my lack of computer graphic skills.
