Kodaganallur is blessed with five temples:

  • Shri Nangaiyar Amman temple as you approach the village from Nadukkallur.
  • Shri Kailasanathar temple--one of the navakailasas--dedicated to Sevvai (Mars).
  • Shri Periapiran (Bruhanmadhava) Temple in the West street
  • Shri Abhimuktesvar temple in the East Street
  • Shri Mukkuruni Pillaiyar temple in the East street.


Shri Nangaiyar Amman temple

Shri Nangaiyar Amman is the legendary
ellaikkaaval deivam  in the village.  The powers of Goddess Shakti here are widely known.  Devotees vouch for miracles happening in Her presence.

Adjacent to this temple is a lily pond (
tamarai kuLam).


Shri Kailasanathar Temple

One of the navakailasa-s, this temple is a sevvai kshetram.  Any invocations to the Mars graham can be performed here.  The kumbabhishekam of this temple was conducted on a grand scale on 17 March 2006.  Thousands of devotees participated with full religious fervour and spirit.

Shri Bruhanmadhava Temple (Periyapiran temple)


An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.  Read more about the documented history of the temple here and on folklore, here.

The
moolavar in the temple is known by the name "Bruhanmadhava".  He has two consorts, Bhumi and Neela.  The utsavar is Lord Ranganatha, also with two consorts.  There is an exclusive sannidhi  for Swami Desikan and the annual Brahmotsavam festival has been revived since this year. 

The
samprokshanam of this temple was performed on June 11, 2003 with great religious fervour.A phot-story of this momentous event is available at the bottom of this page.

The Brahmotsavam 2006 is to start on 23 October 2006.

Shri Abhimuktesvarar--Soundaryanayaki Temple

Sri Abhimukteswara temple, on the East Street is an ancient temple of Ishwara. The SamprOkshaNam of this temple was performed in a befitting manner in the year 1999, and ever since, there has been tremendous enthusiasm among

Shri Mukkuruni Pillaiyar Temple

This huge Ganesha blesses devotees from under a tree.  This sannidi is situated adjacent to the ancient "Shankara Mutt", which is believed to be the first branch of Sri Sringeri Shankara Peetam to be set up in Tamilnadu.
