Torino, here and gone. 17 days of fierce competition. Some with finishes of tears, and some with the patriotic cheers of their whole countries behind them. Now, finally with the Olympic flames diminishing, the torch is passed on. It’s our turn to shine in the spotlight… well, at least the count down to those glorious days will begin. And it all starts with the handing over of one not so small flag, from the mayor of Turin, to our Mayor, who just happens to be a quadriplegic. With specialty mounts to his wheelchair, he swings the flag around on the main stage as thousands scream in excitement and the humble smiles come across all the Canadian athletes wearing their “Vancouver 2010” scarves. I cant help but feel touched and get those fuzzies inside. Our city will soon be transformed slowly into an international showcase. The simple will turn into grandeur. And people will start to get more and more anxious as these next four years will definitely be one of the most exhilarating times for a place we call home. People already know of Canada as a multicultural and accepting place to live, but what better way to start it off then leading the way with a man who sits immobile, but has gone so far. Great start...
