THE COFFEE LINE

...the Usual...Kobei...

Like the millions of other Starbucks whores out there, I was craving my morning kick of caffeine. The road led me to the closest coffee shop… and being in the northwest, it had to be the pretty green lady. As the mindless zombies put fourth their orders, the waiting area became the huddling place of the anxious and forgetful. They stand there motionless, like eager children waiting for that glimpse of the toy soldiers in a parade, until they get their chance to dash forward to take their prize and get off on their way. Freedom at last!... from the confines of the addiction…

Patience is not necessarily a virtue of the self, but of the situation.

You would give a dying man all your attention in his last few breaths, but what of the efforts during his years of loneness… a grandfather in bed.

You would take out your checkbook and write countless amounts to disasters worldwide, but stand by while there is plead for a cure… the children of Africa.

You would sit there and scold a child and try to figure out why they brought home that report card “F”, but neglect the time when they do their tables… a delinquent on its way.

You stare quietly into empty eyes as she packs her things to leave you forever, but can’t take the second to complement her while she tries on 5 different outfits… heartbreaks and aches.

You and me and others alike, are all just victims of our own willingness to let our lives control us. We are in line waiting for our morning cup of coffee. Patient, quite, oblivious. We see things as they are and not they should be. It is the purpose the gives us the will to wait, but as we step outside into the world around us… everything else just become the do’s and don’ts we hate to be controlled by... and only for a moment do we remember why we first needed that jolt to get us going in the first place.
