I look around and seem to forget the time in which we live in is so good… and I forget how lucky we are. I am such a spoiled brat. This world that we perceive is so full of it, that if seen from the outside, people would laugh at all the pettiness and waste and delusion… but they don’t. People love the “west”. People aspired to be like us and have these luxuries. Hollywood. People want to escape their lives. And we just don’t know. Maybe it is just that we don’t care. I find that as technology goes on, and as we start to know more and more, it is all just a big curtain put in front of our eyes. We forget the rest of the world and laugh and play and try to live that perfect life.
Take a look at our parents. They knew war, hardship, and poverty. Now poverty to some means living on the streets… to others, it is not being able to go out and eat whatever we want or to not be able to drive that car, or buy that shirt we want… poverty, HA. In our parent’s time, they knew what hardship really was and they know how to work. Happiness to them was being able to have a few hours to them selves to just do what they wanted. We complain about the old school and how things were different, but that is not our lives…. that was theirs, and regardless how we perceive it, we don’t care, because in relation to the now, that was a world we do not care to know or live or understand.
And then take a step further back, and look at a generation before… arranged marriages, rules, and restrictions. Our parents were lucky if they got to choose who they married, and they complained about their families and how they were of the old school…
This is the new school, and we have it good… and we forget that in some other parts of the world, people’s happiness is still defined differently that what we define happiness as. It take much more for me to put a smile on my face these days… but smile at another half way across the world, as see how their face lights up… see how pathetic our problems may seem.
