The events in our lives that usually cause us to make dramatic changes in the way we live and think are usually what we consider personal tragedies or those all inspiring epiphanies. Ends of the scale aren’t they. Yes, when something tragic happens, it affects us deeply and eats at the core root of ourselves. A death, an accident, or even a big break up. We re-evaluate our lives. Try to stay focused on what is important. Look at our friends and family in a different way and learn to appreciate life for more that it is…

Funny how extreme moment of joy or peacefulness can bring on the same effect. A beautiful sunset while on vacation can really clear the mind. Watching kids play in the park. Reading a book and realizing its true meaning… Essentially the same effect. Profound enlightenment to profound change.

And we hold strong to the moment of how we are to change our lives and treat the people we know better…it’s the better world syndrome…. Everyone wants to make one.

But sometimes people just don’t change. Give it a little time and the spark inside, or the pain that was felt.. it subsides. Then the person has to decide if things really do change or was it just a momentary glimpse of another person. Usually someone they like, someone they hate, or just someone they are afraid of… usually the latter. Just afraid of the change…

And so with all the 911 that can happen, all the unfortunate accidents, the messy divorces in this world.. or all the first time kisses, moonlit swims, or the cure for incurable diseases… Can they really make change to people?

Do we just settle back into our regular lives with larger history books? Do the things that top the list fall to the bottom again? Can we love like in the movies once the credits start to play?

My reaction, change should not be made because of event, change should be made because of want.
