As the days pass on.. we are so oblivious to the times that have changed and are changing... Obviously looking at the world through the eyes of the Mid twenties... we do see in our perspective differently....
Young...
Looking now at the kids growing up today, we see young adults trapped in children's bodies. Kid having sex younger and younger, dressing older, talking older , just more knowledgeable about technology and the use of it. They know so much more at their age that we did. Different worlds... I'm sure the internet and TV has a lot to do with it.. Now that anything is readily available to all, who knows what they can find out... no more parental guidance or censorship.. .and the TV become sour Social skills teacher. What is the positive role model? let see... Jerry Springer, Blind date, Reality shows... What did we have.... Three's Company. Actually, when I watch the show now, I can see all the sexually innuendo's... It was a show about 2 girls and "gay" womanizing guy living in the same apartment. At the time, you'd just think it was about a goofy guy who ran into doors a lot. We just didn't have the exposure like now... Quite sad to hear that John Ritter has pass on from heart problem... an end to a generation...
The Tech Age...
But as this knowledge is growing, is it any better. I'm sure there has been countless movies made on this this theme where you see this utopian society and everyone runs off technology and society is in bliss... then what happens, the technology breaks down and chaos is run wild. No one know how to survive with out their machines..... Sure, growing up now, you can understand the internet and communications through the web, or how you can find anything and everything posted on some site.... but how good would someone be if they got dropped into the forest and asked to fend for themselves...There is a true lack of practical skills now. The tech age has made the new generation not need it. If a machine can do it, then we don't need to.. The world is changing towards the computer... So do the government really worry about AI and movies like the Matrix and Terminator coming true??? Seems like everything is moving towards that.
Spread so Thin...
I feel bad for children growing up in this tech age and how much they are going to lose out on. Just think, while we were growing up, there was too much to learn as is... The world wars, the current events, and at that time the evolution of the computer era, e-mail, internet, programming..... all still quite new in today's standard. I look at things that we lived through like, the gulf war, the boom of the dot-com companies, 9/11... that was current events and to children today... it's in the history books to learn, and one more thing gets pushed back because of it. The information becomes spread so thin.... the more to know, the less to know. So what is the importance now.. What do you teach and what don't you teach....
Old...
Now I've always looked at my elders and see how they are and said that I'd never lose touch with the current. Stay hip. Stay cool...stay with it...MAN.....But as I soon see, I'm already losing it. losing touch with what this younger generation is learning and what is in the center of their thoughts and focus. We grew up in a age when we were able to get the best of both.... the transition from the world with minimal technology, to a world where the sky is the limit.. Land lines to cell phone. Personal in face to face meetings to video conferencing. Who'd ever though of sending a letter that only had 5 words...and carrying on this conversation back and forth that way over the postal service... That's the world of instant messaging.. Well, that was the world we saw and we can look back but also beyond. Imagine growing up now and imagining a world without cell phones or the internet. That's how the kids see it now. These are things that have always been around for them. It's like us growing up and there being no cars.... I think I'm losing grip already... too much to know, too much to keep up with... Scary to think that when I have kids, I'll get to tell stories that start:
"when I was your age, there was no......"
