FEAR OF FALLING

...the Usual...Kobei...

What does it take to make that leap? That leap into a new life, or at least one that is quite different that the one you know. Is it just people who are in transition stages in their lives that can take that leap? It could be a time where people have not made decisions to lock them selves into lifestyles that they will have to be committed to for a long periods of time. It's people who can make the change without too much to lose. So what does it take? The leap is something where you have to be at a right time in your life. It really seems that way. If you have not made a solid career choice, then you can easily change that career. If you just stepped into a relationship that has not become too serious, then you can break it off without too much heartache. If you're going to school and want to go somewhere else to learn, it's not too hard. Actually the reasoning is that is will be easier to make these choices now rather than when you get older because you have the luxury of time to act as your security net. As time goes on, these things and choices get harder to make.

So what if it is all in place. You have a secure well paying job. Everything is perfect with your girlfriend. You love the city you live in. This is it. What does it take? Why break the chain when there is nothing obstructing the links.

It seems that once you have the perfect life. Things seem less perfect. There are no more struggles. There is no more enjoyment of the road that leads from here to there. It become a suitable life that ensures comfort and security. I guess everyone eventually strives to achieve this sort of life and once there, you get to this state of clear thinking. But is this the right life or is this just something that we fall into because of circumstance. There is that saying that we are always in control of our own destiny. Then if that is the case, then maybe the perfect life that we are all trying so hard to achieve is just a bubble that was created, not by us, but by the world we live in. Ready to burst and let us start again to create our own bubble.

Look at it again. In this perfect world you should be able to see more clearly all the important things that we are supposed to see. But when that bubble burst and we revert to the struggle, aren't we able to see things much more clearly then. Aren't we all able to see the imperfection of the perfect world. It's when you are willing to give everything up that you will gain the most. Because then, you are no longer afraid. You no longer look for anything better than what you have... because to you, everything is already better than it is, and better than it will ever be.

So what does it take to make the decisions in your life that you know feels right and not constricted by the rules that everyone else has set for you? What does it take to break away from your current lifestyle and move on to the next. To quit that job. To part with love. To make the change. To take that leap.

It becomes that weighted scale again where all you see in your life is the struggle that it took you to get to where you are verses the unknown. That is why we see so many people stuck into jobs that they hate. People rushing into marriage because of settlement. The ones that never take that chance to try something new. It's the fear of falling. How do I jump into a black hole not knowing what is on the bottom. It is true that some succeed at these changes, but many fail, and many do continue to struggle.

I just look at it this way. If you only have one chance to do it right, not knowing what is right or wrong in this complicated world. Then really there are no choices better than the ones that you just accept and do. Stay, go, run, stop, cry, yell, it's all the same, just a different way of expression. Just different ways of looking at things.

Really it's not the fear of falling that bothers us, it's the fear of not being able to get back up that gives us the problem. Everybody falls all the time. As long as we are able to get back up, bumps and bruises, then it no long becomes an issue of fear, it just becomes an issue of living and being able to still dream....
