On Monday 26 December 2004 at 07.00 a.m. Sumatra Island was hit by the giant earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake was located on about 160 kilometers off the coast of Indonesia's Sumatra Island at a depth of about 10 kilometers. According to the National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC), it was the fourth largest earthquake in the world since 1900 and is the largest since the 1964 Prince William Sound, Alaska earthquake.

The tsunamis that follow the earthquake have caused large impact to the people who live in many countries across Indian Ocean and caused the death toll of more than 150.000 up till now. The ministry of social affairs of republic of Indonesia reported that 104.055 people death and 651.678 people make refuges in Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces.

In those regions, most of infrastructures were damaged. With lacking of electricity, fresh and clean water, food, medicine, and health facilities, the second “Tsunami” threatened, such as diseases, malaria, cholera, starvation, etc. The impact of this catastrophic will not be in short time.

They need our help and care immediately and continuously. In view of the fact, Indonesian Students from Kobe University and other universities in Kobe region joined in Indonesia Student Association in Japan (ISAJ) Kobe branch is inquiring all of us (Japanese and Indonesian people around Hyogo Prefecture) to help them.
