  Inuyasha

Inuyasha is a very bad-mouthed character who doesn't show his emotions very often. He doesn't think things through, but is very powerful and somewhat smug. Because he was never treated very kindly from the humans who feared him and the youkai who made fun of him for being part Human, Inuyasha never trusted people easily. While he did love Kikyou, he is confused between Kikyou and Kagome and doesn't know who to go for giving others the impression that he's double timing both of them. He cares greatly for Kagome over the course of the series and uses his powers to protect her. He cares for her so much that when Kagome returns periodically to her time in the future, Inuyasha hardly seems motivated to do much of anything besides sulk. It also seems that Inuyasha is more powerful when Kagome is around.
  Kagome

Kagome is a very cheerful girl and very resourceful. She spends the majority of her time trying to keep up with her High School entrance exams while pretending to be sick back in her time to hide the fact that she's traveling back and forth through time to Inuyasha's world and her own. She's sweet and caring, though she does get pretty angry when Inuyasha annoys her and they usually get into fights over just about everything because of it. As the protector of the Shikon no Tama, she has a lot of responsibility though she does depend on the others for help, especially Inuyasha.
  Shippou

Shippou has a mouth nearly as bad as Inuyasha's! He's very hot tempered and easily scared, though he talks big. He's pretty smug and likes to crack on Inuyasha whenever he can without getting punched by him and over-reacts easily. He is very fond of Kagome, whom he thinks of as a mother and very protective of her. Since he's a child, he is pretty carefree and oblivious to many things in the world.
  Sango

Calm and very mature. Her love for her brother fuels her into saving him from Naraku as does her hatred for what he did. She was a very happy young girl up until she was nearly killed and lost everything she holds dear. Later in the series, she starts to get some of that lost happiness back thanks to a certain monk.
  Miroku

A pervert. Well, not as bad as you'd think. He has a reason behind all of that flirting he does. He's very formal and polite and there seems to be a developing relationship between both Sango and himself. His "bad habits" seem to get him in trouble a lot though.
  Kikyou

In her previous life, she was a serious young woman who was burdened with taking care of the jewel. She was very polite and extremely powerful. After being brought back, her soul is basically gone because it belongs to Kagome so Kikyou becomes a different person. She's jealous of Kagome for having Inuyasha and is kind of insane.
  Kaede

Kaede is the younger sister of Kikyou who was about 6 or 7 when Kikyou was killed. Due to getting hurt, she lost one of her eyes and grew up to be the priestess of the village in her sister's stead. She also guarded Inuyasha's Forest so that no one would release the seal on Inuyasha and reawaken him.

When Inuyasha was reawakened, Kaede was the one to place the rosary beads on his neck that allowed Kagome (the reincarnation of her long dead sister) to control Inuyasha. She also has powers similar to Kagome/Kikyou as she can see things normal humans can't see and has holy powers. She also mixes potions.

Since 50 years have past since she was a child, she is now an old lady and is pretty wise. She was the first to suspect that there was something going on between her sister and Inuyasha. She, like her sister, also uses the bow and arrow
  Naraku

Manipulative and very smart. He's cocky, but he knows he can win. He has everything planned out perfectly. (Except the Kikyou part which backfired on him. He didn't predict she would choose to die nor did he expect her reincarnation to appear fifty years later, but that was just by fate/chance).
  Myouga

Myouga's introduced early in the series and his name translates to "Flea" which is basically what he is. He's a very old youkai flea who used to serve under Inuyasha's father years and years ago. After Inuyasha's father's death, Myouga became the protector of the tai-inuyoukai's grave, though it turns out he doesn't even know where the grave's located.

He's wise and usually aids the Inu-gang, but he's a huge coward in battle and will run at the first sight of danger usually causing him to get squished by Inuyasha or Kagome. He disappears from time to time and usually ends up appearing again a few episodes later with more advice and help on finding the Shikon no Tama or Naraku.
  Sesshoumaru

He doesn't show emotions at all and has no compassion for Humans or most other youkai for that matter. As his father's successor, he's almost like a king of the western lands, which he governs.
  Kagura

Bitter and frustrated most of the time due to Naraku. She fears for her life and doesn't want to die. More than anything else, she wants to be free of Naraku as she's not really a bad person.
  Kouga

uga is a very powerful, cute looking, brash, and not to mention, somewhat dense wolf demon who leads the wolf tribe. He's amazingly fast due to the power of two Shikon shards embedded into his legs and one into his right arm giving him extra power. Upon meeting Kagome and finding out that she can sense the shards, he decides to take her as his "wife" to the protests of Kagome. He then later really falls for her and truly does intend on making her his. Kagome uses the excuse that she's in love with Inuyasha, so Kouga decides to rid her of this Inuyasha character. When Inuyasha finds out that Kouga had decided to take Kagome as his own, Inuyasha gets very jealous and thus starts a constant battle between the two bad-mouthed demons
