Ikari Shinji
The main character of
the story. Designated operator of Evangelion Unit One. His mother died when he was very young. He
and his father Gendou have lived apart for at
least a decade. A sudden message from Gendou brings Shinji to Tokyo-3, and on that very day, an
"Angel" attacks the city. As a chosen Evangelion Operator, he fights on, though thoroughly
agonized. He is referred to as "Third Children" (a term meaning "the third qualifier"). In
personality, he is a quiet, overachiever type. |

Asuka Langley
Designated Pilot of
Evangelion Unit Two. Like Rei, she too has undergone special training. Three-quarters German,
one-quarter Japanese, born and raised in the U.S. Hates to lose .
at anything. Referred to as "Second Children" ("the second qualifier). First appears in episode
eight. |

Ayanami Rei
Designated Operator
of Evangelion Unit Zero. Has been undergoing special training since Evangelion development began.
Suffered serious injuries when an
accident occurred during testing. Referred to as "First Children" ("the first qualifier"). A girl
of very few words. Has considerable difficulty expressing emotion. |

Katsuragi Misato
"NERV" Operations
Chief. Evangelion Pilot Shinji's immediate superior. In the course of events, she becomes a
guardian/caretaker figure to Shinji. An attractive woman witha cheerful, optimistic personality.

Akagi Ritsuko
Akagi Ritsuko
belongs to First Techology Division in Department of Technology and Development of Nerv
Headquarters. She is responsible in the development
of Evangelion. She is a cool and beautiful scientist. Since she is the direct person-in-charge of
Evangelion, so she knows even more than Katsuragi Misato.
She was a friend of Misato and Kaji Ryouji since they were in college. However, same as Misato,
Ritsuko also falls in love with Ryouji. This becomes a great chance for Ryouji to get important
information about Nerv.

Kaji Ryouji
Together with Asuka,
he comes to Japan from NERV Section Three, in Germany. An old friend of Misato and Ritsuko.

Fuyutsuki kouzou
Fuyutsuki
kouzouis the assistant commander of Nerv. Although he has been a friend of Gendou since Gendou
was in college, it seems that Kouzou is much older. He even calls Gendou directly as "Ikari"
instead of "Commander Ikari". He has been the professor of Ikari Yui, who later becomes mother of
Ikari Shinji. Shortly after the Second Impact, Fuyutsuki discovered the secret behind the Second
Impact and joined Gehirn, which later becomes NERV.

Ikari Gendou
Ikari Gendou is the
chief commander of Nerv. He is also planning for "Human Aid Project". Although he is the father
of Shinji, he treats Shinji as a reserved pilot only.
Conversely, he treats Ayanami Rei like his own daughter. Once Eva-00 has an accident in a test,
and he burnt his palms to saved Rei. Same as Rei, Gendou seldom express his emotions. Like Misato
said, he is weak in expressing his emotions .

Nagisa kaoru
Nagisa Kaoru was
sent directly to NERV Headquarters, as the replacement of Souryu Asuka Langley, for the pilot of
Eva-02. He was referred as "The fifth children". Due to unusual
synchronization data, Kaoru was found to be the 17th Angel, i.e. the last one. When he first
came, he made friends with Ikari Shinji, and Shinji liked him too. Unfortunately, when Shinji
found he was an angel, he had no choice but to kill him.

Suzuhara Touji
A classmate and
close friend of Shinji's. A hothead type who is very direct in expressing his feelings. Speaks in
Osaka dialect. First appears in episode three.

Ibuki Maya
Maya works as an
operator in Eva fighting. She is also the assistant of Akagi Ritsuko |

Aide kensuke
Another classmate and
close friend of Shinji's. A military otaku, he carries a video camera with him wherever he goes.
