SUMMER SEASON 2005/06 GIRLS REPORT
Summer season over Winter just beginning. Our summer results weren't fantastic at the end but we did have half of our teams in finals but ended with 4 Premiers and 4 Runners-up. We had premierships in U/10C, U/12AR, U/14A, and U/18B our runners-up were U/10A, U/16A (second side) U/16AR and U/16BR.
Winter season sees is with 36 teams on the court 4 more than last season. We now have 3 U/23 sides and 5 U/8 sides which in all the years I have been involved with basketball I can't remember any club have 5 sides in U/8's. Marvelous what advertising can do and thanks go to Greg Donald for his work in getting flyers to the local schools.
Would like to welcome our new players and coaches to our club and hope you ill have many happy seasons with us. Our new coaches this season are Nathan Boyd (U/16A 2) and Joes Gordon (U/16AR) and Penny Beaton U/14B.
Hoping all girls and their coaches have a great and enjoyable season and with some luck and hard work see you in the Finals.

UNDER 10A GIRLS REPORT
Another fantastic and
successful season with a team of highly skilled and committed young girls.
Occupying top spot on the ladder for the majority of the season, the girls
were determined to play hard and improve their game each week. Going into
finals the girls knew it was going to be a hard game playing against our tough
competitors again for a second season in a row Eagles. Unfortunately the girls
lost but were determined to fight for their second chance winning against
Ranges the following week taking them into the grand final. The grand final
was a close game and the girls played hard right until the end unfortunately
going down to Eagles by 5 points 34/29. Overall, a wonderful season with some
of the girls playing in their first grand final and they were just excited
to be there. All the girls should be proud of their effort and it was so wonderful
to see all of them learning from each other and most importantly improving
their game and having fun. Thanks heaps girls for a great season and for always
keeping me on my toes! Congratulations to Emily Whalan, Sarah Gibcus, Breanna
Goodman, Sonia Dirito, Hannah Dyson, Stefanie Lowe and Madeline Dyson.
UNDER 12A GIRLS REPORT
Steve Simpson coached
the under 12A girls with ony one top age player and always believed his team
had the ability to give the top age teams a push. The girls were knocked out
of the finals in the first round in a close game but throughout the season
won against the bigger top teams. Overall the girls had a good season, learnt
a lot and played some very high quality basketball. Well done and good luck
to them for next season to Casey, Ashlee, Tegan, Laura, Erin, Brooke, Maddy
and Alexia. Many thanks to Steve for his coaching expertise, patience and
dedication to the team. Thanks too to Kerryn!
UNDER 14A GIRLS REPORT
Congratulations to coach Larry Field and the girls of this team for winning a fantastic grand final that capped another very successful season. These girls still have another 2 seasons in this age group and to be the winner of A grade is something quite special.
After going down to Wasps in the first final, the team hit its straps again in the preliminary final defeating the Basin by 20 points, this guaranteeing another crack at their arch rivals.
The grand final started as an arm wrestle and things were not exactly going our way until half time and the team found itself 6 points down. Larry has always drummed into this team that the measure of the way we are going is the intensity of our defence. In the second half the lights were turned on and in what can only described as inspirational and passionate basketball our girls went on a 21 to NIL second half blitz.
The turnaround was in all facets of the game. Our point guards in Sam and Meg dictated the tempo and constructed a variety of offensive options whilst attacking the ball movement of Wasps. With Nat and Mairead shutting down all passing lanes and a defence that was in their face the pressure was sure to make them crack. A result of this allowed Susan and Emily to dominate the boards and now we were up and running our forwards had the opportunity to shine and with a shooting display by Nicole and Alex the scoreboard was going to continue to click over.
These girls deserve every accolade they receive, as it is not just luck that ensures success it is the result of a dedicated coach, 100% training attendance and a conscious effort to always do what is best for the team.
In conclusion we would
like to congratulate and wish all the best of luck to the 5 girls that will
be playing in the National Championships in Brisbane September 2006. Well
done girls!
