SUMMER SEASON 2005/06 BOYS REPORT

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN

This season saw the biggest influx of junior boys to our program for a very long time. In all we had 4 teams with 36 players that had come from far and wide. These players were from 9 different schools and for the first time we had similar numbers to the girl's side of the program.

Due to the generosity of the committee we were able to supply club singlets to this age group for the first time and it brought a big smile to our faces to be able to watch a tribe of little cougar boys on a Saturday morning. Obviously it was a logistical nightmare to organise teams that had every player and parent attending their first game. As a coordinator I would to thank all involved for their patience and effort.

To the 4 U/8 coach's Josh, Kathy, Elly and Greg, my most sincere thanks go out to you all for the time you put in, and your dedication to the cause. One of the things we did learn was during the summer season is our best opportunity to attract junior boy players, as we are no competing against other popular Australian sports. Although some players have left for the winter to play footy we have been re-assured they will rejoin the ranks next season hat may lead us to the dithering heights of up to 7 boys teams in this age group.

This winter season sees us with 4 teams and several eligible players in a higher age group. I wish all the players well and look forward to another season watching these boys develop their skills. I encourage anyone that knows of any young guys looking for a game or even just a place to train to give us a call. All these teams train on a Wednesday night between 5.00 and 6.00pm at the Knox Converse Stadium.

UNDER 10 BOYS REPORT

The under 10 boys are looking forward to another successful season following on from the terrific results we had in the summer 05/06 season just completed.

Congratulations to Ben Page and his boys who won a thrilling 10BR grand final by just 2 points. Terrific effort from Corey Page, Andrew and Michael Cassin, Jayden Dihood, Daniel Gayed, Karl Munton and Jack Walter.

Congratulations to Stephen Cross and his boys fro playing off in the 10B finals and to Michael Callinan and his 10D boys for also making it to the finals.

The current winter season sees 4 teams of at least 7 players in each time. We are seeing the flow on effect from the massive recruitment of under 8's last season.

Good luck to all teams for the current season.

UNDER 14A BOYS REPORT

As exciting as all the GF's of the summer season were I'd like to tell you the story of the most emotional game I watched all season. The 14 A boys started the season off strongly, winning 3 in a row, there followed a lot of see-sawing, here, there, win some, lose some. Our strongest competition came from Saints and WASPS. Saints being undefeated all season. The end of round 18 found us in 3rd spot. We comfortably won the semi final against MT. Tigers by 10 points, only to learn that in a surprising upset WASPS beat Saints in the 1 v 2 semi, sending them through to the GF.

We thought we were done for, having to meet Saints in the Pre-lim, but coach Nicko pumped up the boys with a motivational speech, and low and behold we cam away with a 30/26 win over the undefeatables.

The boys are all excitable and preparing to go into the GF when the unthinkable happens. Our tall boy, super rebounder, Daniel Walker is involved in a horrific accident only days before the game. Daniel is in a serious condition in the Royal Children's hospital and would miss the game. On top of that another player in our team Luke Coull, had his father John diagnosed with a terminal illness, causing John to kiss many of the games this season, but he made it to this game, to watch his son play on the GF. Daniel had a huge cheer squad of friends and supporters in his absence to spur on the team.

The basketball gods were on our side, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the Cougars camp when the buzzer sounds and we were Premiers 41/27.

The boys did it for Daniel and did it for John. Congratulations boys, Brayden Beaton, Anthony Lowe, Luke Coull, Jarrod Snelling, Daniel Carden, Tim Lee and Andrew Cannizzo. With special thanks to coach Nicko for your dedication, guidance and inspirational words.
