The FBI started in 1908. Attorney Genral Charles Bonaparte said that the FBI should exist.Through 1910-1921, the FBI had few cases to work on, but that  changed when the government passed the Mann Act ("white slave  act"), which is that you can't transport women over state boarders for immoral  purposes. The FBI also handled the border patrol. As the 1920s moved on, the crooks were out of control. The prohibition on liquor did more bad than good. The "moonshiners" made and sold liquor illegally. Which, in turn, raised crime. In Chicago, the mob ruled. One of the major mob bosses was Al Capone. The    mob hade more powerful weapons (The Tommy Gun) and a more powerful tactic, the hit-and-run. 1921-1933 were called the "Lawless Years" because of the mob and KKK (Ku Klux Klan) and other bank robbers. The Postwar era was not an easy one for the FBI. We thought the  atomic secret was safe, but we were wrong, the KGB (Russian Secret Police) had infiltrated the U.S  government. They had people in the highest positions of our government. Over 300 KGB agents were found. At the end of the Cold War in 1989-1993 when  the Berlin Wall fell the FBI was very aware of what was happening around   them.We had DNA " fingerprinting" and technology was ever more increasing which was a help to forensic science, but we keep on trying to find more ways. The FBI has to bring on another goal now, the finding of terrorist in the U.S.  They must find ways that people hadn't thounght of. They are the people who took on the mob, the Russian spies, and the high-tech hackers of today. They can and will take down the terrorist. We hope every one on this page is in prision soon.
