Jim's Apartment “According to the police, Barbara, Alexis Colby still denies any involvement with her sister’s death. She admitted, though, that she was present at her sister’s penthouse minutes before Caress Morel was found dead, and that she was there when Zach Powers got shot” “But she still denies that she shot him?” “Yes. According to Alexis Colby, her sister was the one who shot Zach Powers – but as I said before, the police are convinced that she first shot Powers and after her sister threatened to call the police – she panicked and forced her to jump to her death” “Linda Wolf, with the latest on the Alexis Colby arrest – thank you very much,” the CNN broadcaster said. LB turned off the television as Ashley entered the living room, dressed and ready to go. “Any news?” she asked. “No. Poor grandma, she’ll have to stay in custody until the hearing tomorrow. I still can’t understand that. I know she disliked her sister, but she’d never kill her. They don’t know her as I do.” the boy said. “She’s has the best lawyer in Denver. I’m sure she’ll be out on bail, after the hearing.” Ashley tried to encourage her boyfriend. “I hope so” LB turned to her and noticed that she was dressed. “Wow. You look great… I guess you’re meant to come with me today?” he asked her, referring to the day after Christmas brunch that Krystle had invited them too. “No, actually I don’t think that’s such a good idea. Your grandpa will ask questions if he sees me without Danny.” “So? We’ll tell him the truth. It’s about time he knows who the new girl in my life is, don’t you think so?” LB smiled. “Come on, LB. we already talked about that last night. It’s too soon” “Is it too soon to tell him? Or is it too soon to say your final goodbye to Danny?” “What’s that suppose to mean?” “You know perfectly well what. Danny, do you want something to drink? Danny, can I bring you something?” He imitated her behavior form the previous evening. “Hey, that’s not fair! I tried to be civil with him and with the rest of the family. Your grandpa thought we were still together and I had to act that way!” “You call that an act? It looked like it was very real to me, Ashley. You enjoyed being with him, who knows where it could have ended if I hadn’t taken you out of there.” “No one takes me anywhere, I leave when I want to, anyway Danny left with his parents and I had to leave too!” “Well, I’m surprised that you didn’t leave with Danny. I’m sure he would have been happy to take you back into his bed.” “Danny doesn’t want me back, and besides I went with you, not with Danny. What is the matter with you? You are acting like a little boy!” “Maybe that’s what I am, a little boy, okay?” he raised his voice. “Okay!” she yelled at him back and stepped toward the main door. “Where are you going?” “To Delta Rho.” “The hell you’re not!” He yelled.
“Watch me!” She yelled back at him. “Ashley, don’t you dare walk out of here to that rat!” “He is leaving for Princeton today, LB. I’m going to say goodbye to him. And it’s your problem that you don’t trust me, not mine!” she said and stormed out. “Damn!” LB clacked his hand on the table. Denver Police department, counseling room Alexis was brought to a small counseling room for questioning. Captain Tanner had taken over this case and conducted the interrogation of Alexis. He was determined to get a confession. Sgt. Lewis was present too, but stayed in the background, giving precedence to his superior; while his partner Craig Harper quietly watched the interrogation from the next room through a mirrored pane. “Okay Mrs. Colby, let me get this straight. Your sister called you after she shot Mr. Powers, and then she shot a second time at him as she noticed that he was still alive, before threatening you with the gun?” “Yes! Haven’t we been through this before?” Alexis said, frustrated and tired. “Was that when it came to a scuffle with your sister and she fell off the terrace?” “No! I had left her apartment already when she fell to her death ... I mean when she committed suicide.” Alexis assured him. Tanner leaned forward. “Okay, now let me tell you what I think happened that night at your sister’s apartment.” “It came down to a fight between Mrs. Morel, Mr. Powers and you about your sister’s will and her intention to give her shares in ColbyCo to Mr. Powers ...” “No!” Alexis repeated annoyed.
“... In whose course you shot Mr. Powers.” Captain Tanner finished the sentences. “I DID NOT DO IT!” Alexis said again, this time more insistent. Tanner continued. “Then you tried to get rid off the only witness, your sister.” Alexis shook her head in frustration. “That’s not what happened.” “You threaten her with the gun and forced her to jump from her terrace to make it look like suicide. Then you cleaned the gun of your prints and left the apartment. Isn’t that what happened that night, Mrs. Colby?” “No! No! No! How many times do I have to say it?” “We know that you and your sister had serious differences. You wanted to prevent your sister form changing her will, and give the majority of stock to Mr. Powers.” “That is not true!” Alexis paused for a moment. Then she admitted. “Yes, we had differences, but I would never want to kill her!” “All the evidence points to only one person ma'm.” He reminded her. “But the evidence has been manipulated!” Alexis objected. “Well, I would rather say the evidence is overwhelming, Mrs. Colby. We know you were there. You had the opportunity and you have a motive.” “But I did not kill my sister, and I did not try to kill Mr. Powers.” Alexis assured for the hundredth time. The captain stood up from the table and started pacing the room a little. He was convinced that soon or later Alexis Colby would confess. He only needed to interrogate her hard enough. “Okay Mrs., let’s go over this one more time ...” Just then Matt Tyler, Alexis’s attorney entered the room. He was considered to be one of the best American defense attorneys. “I’m sorry for my delay, Mrs. Colby. I was stuck in traffic.” He apologized. “I’ve already petitioned the court for an immediate bail hearing.” He said, before turning to Captain Tanner. “This interrogation is over. Mrs. Colby is not going to answer any more of your questions, sir.” He stated. Delta Rho
Ashley looked at the picture on top of the fireplace, smiling. She loved the ranch; it was warm and welcoming, so different from the mansion. She had just arrived there. The door was opened and she entered the house, debating whether or not to go to Danny’s room. “Mom where’s my baseball mitt?” Danny entered screaming. “Hi Danny!” Ashley turned to look at him. Danny ignored her walking towards the front door. “Mom?” Ashley stepped in his way and tried to stopped him. “I just came to say goodbye and wish you a pleasant trip back, that’s all, Dan.” “Alone? LB must have loved that idea. You’ve said your goodbye the day I caught you in bed with him. Now if you’ll excuse me I have better things to do.” Danny turned. “Danny, don’t leave things this way. LB and I are a part of your family you can’t ignore us.” Ashley pleaded. Danny turned and laughed. “LB might be a member of my family, but you, despite your illusions, you’ll never be.” “Oh really! I’m not only a part of LB’s life, what alone makes me a part of your family, I’m also related to your new siblings.” Ashley stated, happy to have the last word. “What’s that suppose to mean?” Danny asked puzzled. “You know there’s a chance that Jim is the father of the twins your mother is carrying.” Ashley stated with a smug look on her face. “Danny, lunch will be ready in 15 minutes, how’s your packing going?” Sammy Jo entered the leaving room. “Hi Sammy Jo!” Ashley said. “Oh, hi Ashley, would you like to join us?” Sammy Jo asked. “Ashley was just leaving!” Danny stated looking angrily at his mother. “Yeah, I better go. Bye” Ashley said and left. “Bye.“ Sammy Jo said and turned to look at her son. “That was completely out of place.” Danny stared at his mother angrily; ”You’re as bad as she is mother!“ he yelled. “Danny!“ Steven walked in looking tired. “Why didn’t you two tell me that there is a chance that Jim is the father?” Danny asked reproachfully. “I’m sorry, ok? With everything that’s been going on, your father and I forgot.” Sammy Jo explained as Steven nodded.
“So it’s ok with you that mom slept with some other guy while she was with you?” Danny asked almost yelling. “Danny, listen. When your mother and I came back from New York we agreed to go on with our lives, she had every right to be with Jim, and any way it’s not like I’ve never slept with other men while I was with her.” Steven chuckled winking at Sammy Jo. “Some role models you two are. God I’m so glad I’m leaving Denver. You two deserve each other.” Danny stated upset. He hated how open his parents were with him when it came to their relationship. Why couldn’t they be like normal parents! Danny shook his head as he walked out. Steven laughed as he sat down; “I needed that. Nothing like a good laugh.” “If I knew this would convince him to leave I would have said it sooner. He’s really worried about Alexis and the pregnancy. How is that going?” Sammy Jo asked. “I’ll tell you at lunch.” Steven stated. “Alright. Sable and Dex are at the mansion. Do you want…” Sammy Jo started asking, but Steven shook his head. “I just want to spend a nice quiet meal with my family! Danny all packed?” Steven asked. “Almost, how about you?“ Sammy Jo asked. “I’ll pack my stuff tonight, I still…” Steven started as Sammy Jo stopped him. “I know but it’s for the best. Let’s eat.” Sammy Jo said and went into the kitchen. The Carrington Mansion
“Mrs. Colby, it’s a pleasure to welcome you back.” Gerard greeted Sable, as she, Monica, Cameron, and Dex entered the house. “It’s good to be back.” Sable said. “Mr. and Mrs. Carrington are in the study.” “Thank you, Gerard.” Dex answered. Sable took in the site of the grand hallway as she entered the room, she had always admired the view, and it almost compared the main entrance of the home she shared with Jason. Sable was jolted from her thoughts, as Krystle hugged her. “Oh Sable, I’m so happy you are here.” “Krystle, you look wonderful.” As Krystle, Monica and Sable exchanged pleasantries, Dex and Cameron strolled over to Blake. “Dex, can I fix you a drink?” “A brandy would be nice.” “Me too” Cameron smiled. “I think soda water will do, and I.” Blake laughed. “Okay, thank you” Cameron said as he took the glass. “Joseph and Cathy are in the garden if you would like to see them.” “Oh, great!” Cameron answered and walked out. “He seems to be adjusting rather well.” Blake asserted. “I guess, but its Sable I’m worried about. She putting on her no nonsense act, but I know better, she worried about Miles, and in her delicate condition, it could push her over the edge.” “Then we must see to it nothing jeopardizes her health.“ „Speaking of health, how are you? Krystle told me you’re under house arrest and are ordered to spend most of the time in bed.“ „Well, I’m trying.“ the old man smiled. Meanwhile the ladies were seated on one of Blake’s leather couches, talking. “I’m so very glad you’re home, Sable. I’m just sorry it isn’t under better circumstances.” “Yes, me too. I pray to god Miles will be all right.” “Of course he will, mother.” Monica said. “He got your will to live.” “I was rather surprised when Amanda told me how close they had become.”
“Yes, I think she loves him very much.” Krystle nodded. Sable interjected “I don’t know Amanda very well, but I hope she will be good for him.” “Anyone would be better for him.” Monica said. “He’s just pined over Fallon and Channing for the past ten years.” Monica noticed Jeff in the hallway. “Jeff” she jumped up to hug her cousin. “Well, if that isn’t the sexiest cousin I have.” Jeff laughed. “We just visited Miles, and Amanda told us you got yourself tested. I’m so proud that you’ve put the past behind you. “Well, Miles and I may not like each other very much, but we are family. By the way, I got a call from the hospital. Miles’ doctor said, the lab didn’t get enough of a sample the first time, so I need to be tested again.” Sable stood up and walked to Jeff and Monica. “Jeff” “Sable, I’m pleased to see you looking so healthy.” Jeff stood in shock as she embraced him. “Thank you.” Sable smiled as she let go of Jeff. “I know I’ve never been on your Christmas list, but I love my son very much, and I can never thank you enough.” Jeff turned red, and thanked her back. “Well, I’m going to say hi to Dex.” “Jeff was never one for compliments.” Monica said. Jeff joined the men at the bar. “Dex...” “Jeffery!” Dex smiled at him and they shook hands. „I still need to thank you for letting us know about Miles“ “It was my duty. And I admit we all missed you and Sable here. It’s great to see you two together again.“ Jeff said. Dex felt slightly uncomfortable, but tried to hide it behind a smiled. He had decided not to say anything about Sable’s amnesia, hoping nobody would mention what had happened before Sable’s accident, six months ago.“ Where are Fallon and Steven?“ He asked, trying to change the subject. “Fallon should be here any minute. I don’t know about Steven. Jeff replied, before turning to his father-in-law. “Did Steven say he would come, Blake?“ “No. I asked him, but I guess he’s not in the mood, after Alexis’s arrest last night.“ The old man assumed. Dex had already heard about it, and even if he denied it he still cared about Alexis and anything that happened to her. “Do you think she did it?” Dex asked. Blake shrugged his shoulders. “Quite frankly, I don’t know.”
“I can’t imagine that she did it.” Jeff said. Dex nodded. “I can’t believe it either. I know she has done some terrible things in the past, but I don’t think she’s capable of murder.” Their discussion was interrupted by a cheer of joy. “Darling, what is it?“ Blake asked his wife. “GOOD NEWS. Sable and Dex decided on a wedding date!” Krystle said happily. “So, you’re going to get married after all.” Blake was visibly surprised, but glad that Dex and Sable obviously had managed to work things out. “Congratulation, Dex.” Blake exclaimed, giving his friend a pat on the back, before approaching Sable and hugging her. Jeff was clearly baffled too. He looked at Dex’s face. The expression was a mixture of fear and guilt. “What’s the matter, Dex?” He whispered. Dex looked uncomfortable. “She has partial amnesia. She doesn’t remember what happened at the ball.” Dex confessed, referring to the photo album with the pictures of him and Alexis in bed. “You mean she doesn’t know, that she called your wedding off?”
Dex shook his head. “No. She doesn’t remember anything of it.” Jeff got worried. “Do you think it’s wise not to tell her?” Dex knew he had to tell her, because it was only a matter of time before Sable would find out about his affair. It was inevitable. He knew it was going to happen soon or later. “Don’t worry, I’ll tell the truth. But only later, she’s so happy right now.” He finally said. “Okay Dex, but it should be better coming from you than from somebody else.” Jeff reminded him, before the two joint the rest of the family. Dex knew Jeff was right. Otherwise it would surely ruin any chance he had with Sable. He was scared to lose her again, and he promised himself he would spend the rest of his life making it up to her if he had to. “To Sable and Dex, may your life know only joy and happiness.” Blake toasted. “To love!“ They all called and clicked their glasses. The Denver 17th district courthouse – The Next Morning
The press besieged the entrance of the courthouse. Steven and Fallon barely got inside. Reporters held microphones out towards their faces and fired questions at them, determined to get a story. But neither Steven nor Fallon were in the mood to give a statement. They both were worried about their mother. Would her attorney manage to get her out on bail? “Mrs. Colby, Mrs. Colby,” A newspaper reporter called out to get Fallon’s attention. “Do you believe in your mother’s innocence?” Steven tried to protect his sister and pushed the microphone away. “Please let us through!” He said annoyed. Another reporter stepped in their way. “Mr. Carrington, can you tell us more about what happened that night in Mrs. Morel’s penthouse? Did your mother kill her sister to get sole control over her former empire?” He tried to provoke Steven. Steven was on fire, but he tried to maintain his composure on the outside. “Listen, SHE DID NOT DO IT!” He said, before brushing him aside to get into the building. The courtroom was filling up fast. Alexis was already sitting at the defense table when Steven and Fallon entered. They walked up to her and Fallon embraced Alexis just before the bailiff called the court to order and the judge emerged from his office. He took place behind the bench and everyone in the room was told to be seated. The bail hearing started and the district attorney stood behind the prosecutor’s table. “You’re Honor, Mrs. Colby is charged with the murder of her sister and associate Cassandra Morel Fincini and the attempt murder of her business partner and former finance Zachary Powers. These are capital offenses and Mrs. Colby has a record of fleeing from justice. Therefore the state is recommending that bail is denied in this case and Mrs. Colby stays in custody for the duration of the trial.” Then the defense got its turn to reply. “Your Honor, Mrs. Colby is leading one of the most successful companies in this country and she’s an honorable member of this community. The state Colorado and especially the city of Denver owe a lot to her. She is known for her generous donations and her engagement for the arts and culture in this city. But most important Mrs. Alexis Colby is innocent of the charges against her. She’s a victim of ...” “Objection, Your Honor ...” The district attorney butted in. “Mr. Tyler, please keep that for the criminal trial.” The judge instructed him. Alexis’s attorney quickly replied. “You’re Honor; there is neither a danger of absconding nor of collusion. The prosecution is misguiding the court; Mrs. Colby didn’t attempt to flee from justice during the Marc Jennings trial. She had to do business abroad that had to be dealt with straightaway. Therefore the defense asks the court to release Mrs. Colby on bail until the trial.” “Your Honor, I know that Mrs. Colby has done a lot for the Denver community. However, I must remind the court of the nature of the charges against her and the fact that any bail no matter what amount is small change for Mrs. Colby, and wouldn’t serve its purpose. She owns three jets that are waiting tanked up at the airfield ...” The prosecuting attorney explained. Tyler cut him off. “You’re Honor, that’s discrimination!” After a moment of consideration, the judge was ready to rule. “The court sets a bail of $ 2 Million. The defendant is to be release until the trial.” He stated and the sound of the gavel echoed through the room. Alexis was relieved. After thanking her attorney, she turned around to Steven and Fallon who were relieved as well. “Good job, Mr. Tyler” Steven congratulated, shaking his hand. “Well, you hired me because I’m the best.” He replied.
Denver Memorial Hospital- blood and pathogen unit
Sable sat with Monica, Dex, and Amanda as they waited for their turns to be tested as a match for Miles. Monica looked up as Jeff walked out the door, rolling down his shirt sleeve. “Nothing to it.” He said, knowing how she felt about needles. The technician announced Monica’s name. “Mother, I feel like a child, but would you mind coming inside with me.” Sable smiled. “Of course I will darling.” It was nice to still be needed by her children, she thought. Dex, Jeff and Amanda sat in an uneasy silence, until Dex broke the ice. “Amanda” “Yes Dex?” she looked up hopeful. “I just wanted to apologize for my behavior yesterday.” Amanda smiled, “Dex, you don’t need to.” Dex held up his hand. “Yes I do. What I said was unfair and I never should have attacked you like this. I understand you did what you thought was best, but you had no right to interfere in my life.” “I realize that now, maybe we could work on being friends again.” “Okay.” Dex smiled, but immediately grow serious again. “But I have to ask you for a favor.” Amanda felt relieved. “Sure, whatever it is.” Dex hesitated, thinking about how to explain his request. “When Sable woke up from her coma she couldn’t remember anything from immediately before the accident, including my affair with Alexis. I want to give her some more time to recover before I talk to her. Okay? Please don’t mention anything in her presence. It’s too soon …” “But don’t wait until it’s too late, Dex!” Monica said, coming back into the waiting room, looking pale. “It makes me sick lying to her and pretending everything is fine.” Monica said coldly. Jim looked comfortable in his bed as the nurse added another pillow. “Well you look all set.” Sammy Jo smiled as she sat down next to him. “I think we should let the doctor rest. I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning for physical therapy. Good night!” The nurse left. Ashley sat down on the other side from Sammy Jo. “We’ll let you rest!” Sammy Jo stood up as Jim grabbed her hand. “Sammy Jo, I want to thank you so much for letting me stay here. I’ll prove myself worthy, you’ll see once I’m back on my feet.” Jim stated. “You’re welcome! Now all you have to concentrate is on getting better. Come on Ashley, let’s leave him alone.” Sammy Jo smiled. Ashley kissed his head. “I’ll see you tomorrow, rest up.”
Jim smiled as his eyes closed watching them exit. “Sammy Jo thank you so much for letting him stay here. It means the world to him.” Ashley stated as she and Sammy Jo headed down the hall. “No problem, it’s the least I can do. After all you can’t take care of him all by yourself.” Sammy Jo smiled. “I would have managed.” Ashley retorted. “I doubt that, you have your own life.” Sammy Jo added. “Meaning…” “Ashley, let’s not go there. Your life is none of my business.” Sammy Jo stated. “That’s not completely true, if you and Jim ever get married, I’ll be apart of your life.” Ashley added. “Well the way for that is long. Jim still has a lot to prove. He betrayed me and people I love.” Sammy Jo signed. “But you and Jim love each other. You haven’t got a clue how important you are to him.” Ashley pleaded. “Love isn’t everything, I still have to forgive him.” Sammy Jo said. “You will forgive him just like Danny will forgive me.” Ashley stated matter of factly. “Any way, I guess he is in New York by now.“ She added. “Maybe I’ll give him a call later.“ Sammy Jo laughed. “You know, I’m sure Danny will forgive you someday, after all he’s his father’s son. I’d worry about the rest of the family.” Sammy Jo explained. “Fallon and Jeff …” Ashley began. “I’m not just talking only about them, they are not the only ones you have to worry about. Trust me, I have plenty of personal experience.” Sammy Jo walked on leaving Ashley speechless. The Mansion
“I never thought I would be so happy to be home.” Adam said as he and Krystle walked through the double doors. “We are all happy you are home.” Krystle said. She had picked him up from the airport. “I can’t wait to see my son.” “He missed you.” She said as Blake walked down the stairs. “Adam! I’m so glad you are here.” Blake said as they hugged. “Father, I’m glad to see that you are well.” “I’m doing much better now that you are here” Blake looked over his shoulder. “Didn’t Dana come with you?” “No, she had work to do; she might come up for a vacation later on.” Adam said, Blake and Krystle noticed the sad look on his face. “Well I’m just glad you are here and you are all right.” “I almost wasn’t, but its’ all behind us now. Mrs. Litton is dead, and the last ruminates of the consortium are dissolving.” “Yes and now life can get back to normal.” Blake added. “Well as normal as Denver is.” Krystle added as they laughed. “I just want to take a shower, and then I’m going to see how mother is doing. I just can’t believe what happened.” “We are just happy she’s out on bail.” They started up the stairs to take Adam’s suitcase upstairs. “Krystle tells me that you have semi retired.” Adam said with a devourers glare. “Well it’s only temporary until I get back on my feet.” Blake said. “There is something I want to talk to you about.” “Yes?” Adam wondered. “It’s about Denver Carrington.” Blake began but was stopped by Joseph running down the stairs. “Joseph,“ a big smile spread on Adam’s face when he saw the boy.
“Oh Hello,“ the boy replied shortly. “I’m going outside grandpa.” He turned to Blake, not even looking at his father. “Hey, wait a second son.” Adam called “Yes?” “Don’t I even get a hug?” “I said `hi`. I’ll be outside.” He said running down the stairs. “What?” Adam said. Krystle put a hand on his shoulder. “He’s just a little upset. He felt so alone on Christmas, without you and Kirby, he doesn’t understand why you weren’t here.” “Well, maybe I should explain it to him.” “We will see you for dinner.” Blake said. “Adam, just be gentle with him.“ Krystle asked her stepson as she and Blake walked upstairs.
„Don’t worry“ Adam said and went after the boy. He found Joseph playing with his transformers under one of the big oak trees on the mansion. “Joseph, can we talk a minute?” Adam asked Joseph sat his Optimums Prime figure down. “If I have no other choice.” “I just wanted, I mean I have to - ” Adam was stuck; he didn’t know where to begin. “Dad why did you stay away on Christmas” Joseph was ten, but he still couldn’t understand why grownups did what they did. “I didn’t want to son, but I was stuck.” “If you wanted to be here with me you would have.” “I’m going to be honest with you son, do you know about those people that wanted to hurt your grandfather? The people that were responsible for mommy’s death?” “Yes those consort people.” “Yes the consortium, well one of those people was after me, and she and I had a fight in Montana, and she was killed. I had to stay behind to answer some questions, and then a snow storm hit, and the airports were closed.” “Oh.” “You see, I wanted to come home, I wanted to be with you and the rest of the family for Christmas.” Adam said as Joseph come over and hugged him. “I’m sorry dad, I didn’t know.” Then Joseph pulled away. “Where did you stay?” “Well, that a little difficult to explain.” Adam said confused, but he thought honesty was the way to go. “I stayed with a friend of mine named Dana” “So you stayed with a woman, you weren’t stuck, and you just didn’t want to come home.” Joseph picked up his toys and started to run away, but turned beck. “Mommy never would have done anything like that!“ he yelled and walked away, leaving Adam hurt.
