Up On the roof Charlie looked down on the street below. It had to be at least 50ft; if it didn�t kill him it would at least do some serious damage that would kill him in the long run. 10 minutes past and he was still watching the people below him getting on with their normal everyday lives, he could see two girls across the street looking into a music store window and pointing and smiling at a cardboard cut out of three guys, he squinted it was him, matt and James. He sighed there were people out there that would be truly devastated if he jumped, and what if Sheryl pulled through how would she feel if she found out he was dead?

"Not so easy now you're up here is it?" asked someone behind him

Charlie turned his head and saw Matt leaning against the wall looking at him sympathetically

"Yes it is I was just about to jump when you spoke" Charlie said quickly knowing full well it wasn't true

"No you weren't I've been here the whole time I followed you up the stairs, you've stood there for 15 minutes just watching, and backing away from the edge" Matt pointed at Charlie's feet he was now a good 5 ft away from the edge.

"Well what was I supposed to do? Let hundreds of people down, maybe even Sheryl?" Charlie snapped walking over towards Matt "And how would YOU know if it was easy or not? You've never been in this kind of situation" Charlie added looking Matt Square in the eyes knowing he was going to be told otherwise.

"That's where you're wrong" Matt said "I've never told anyone about it, but when I was 15 I climbed up onto the school roof with every intention of jumping, just like you."

"Yeah but why, you've always said you had a great childhood. What made you want to?" Charlie said looking both shocked and puzzled

"My girlfriend of 3 years dumped me for my worst enemy, we'd hated each other since we were little kids and he always had to do better than me, then when he couldn't anymore he took what mattered most to me at the time and ruined me, completely" Matt said starting to cry

Charlie walked over to him realising what a fool he'd been and hugged Matt. "I'm so sorry mate and I know this is hurting you but" Charlie was crying now as well "but what made you change your mind? Why didn't you jump?"

"because" Matt began looking at Charlie with a very scared expression "because when I got onto the roof my mates who had gone after me to stop me made me list everyone I'd hurt by jumping and I realised that there were more of them than there were people who wouldn't care and that by hurting the people that did care no one would get through it, so I backed away just like you just did and tried to forget about it forever. But when I saw how you reacted to Sheryl I knew that you were going to do the same thing but you managed to convince yourself not to, that makes you so much better than me"

"No it doesn't. You were a lot younger it was harder then" Charlie said "Now come on lets go back to ward Fletch and Sheryl need us"

"Ok" said Matt wiping his tears "But Charlie you won't mention this to anyone will you?"

"Course not" Charlie said smiling and opening the roof door.

Emily, Laura, Lynsey, Gemma and James were sitting in the intensive care waiting room looking so worried it was almost like the world had ended.

"I don't know who I'm more worried about" Said James looking round at everyone "I mean it was hard enough just Fletch but now Sheryl and Charlie I mean how bad can one day get?"

"Oh I wouldn't waste your time worrying about me" Said Charlie

"Thank God" said James "Three was too much to cope with!" turning to Matt "You talked him down then?"

"No he talked himself out of it without realising it I just had to sway him a little" said Matt flashing a concerned look at Charlie who had walked over to the glass of Sheryl's room and placed both hands on it, resting his head on it and staring in.

"She is gonna be ok mate" said James walking over

"I know" said Charlie "it's just... I hate seeing her like this"

"We all do" said lynsey getting up from her chair and offering her a hug

"WOAH! The girl spoke� Matt�s voice came from somewhere in the corner

Everyone laughed for the first time in days. Before all falling silent and looking around awkwardly. Just then a doctor came out of Fletch's room

"He's just come round does someone want to go in and see him?" she asked

"I'll go" Lynsey said pulling out of her hug with Charlie "look after yourself" she said looking right at him. He nodded and the doctor led her into fletch's room.

*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP*

The noise was coming from Sheryl's room and a group of doctors and nurses ran in with a crash trolley.

"SHERYL!" Shouted Charlie pressing his head up against the glass "What's happened? What's wrong with her? SAVE HER PLEASE YOU'VE GOT TO SAVE HER!" he pleaded.

Matt pulled him away from the glass thinking it was best Charlie didn�t watch. Everyone looked frantic.
