About us
Sir Frederick sewing his arming cap.
Members of the Companie take a keen interest in medieval arts and crafts and study the historical background surrounding the Crusades.

The Companie of Knights Bachelor has a limited historical period and setting. The setting is from 1150 to 1250, in the Holy Lands. For tournaments and public displays, the specific date is 1195.

The Companie has a high standard of historical accuracy, encouraging every member to do historical research. All gear has to be documented, meaning that some primary historical source for it must be found (such as a picture from a manuscript). This isn't as hard as it sounds, and it encourages the highest degree of realism that the twentieth-century society can produce. The Companie of Knights Bachelor puts the emphasis on re-enactment. Historical accuracy is valued, and there is much more to Companie life than combat.
None of this makes the Companie of Knights Bachelor any better than other Living History group. It just makes us different - after all, no two groups are the same.

The Companie of Knights Bachelor is subdivided into smaller groups called Banners. More properly, these banners are the retinues of three great people of noble birth; with Ladies, lesser knights, squires, ladies-in-waiting and merchants attending them.

The current banners are:

The Banner of William Fitz Alan. This banner consists primarily of Normans from the regions Normandy and Anjou owing their allegiance to Richard the Lionheart, Duke of Normandy. This retinue is based in
Acre.

The Banner of Ranulf Fitz Layton. This banner consists primarily of English Knights and Ladies who follow Richard the Lionheart. Those of the retinue of Ranulf Fitz Layton live in
Jaffa.

Isabella de Ferrers heads the Banner of
Tyre. This banner is mainly French Knights and Ladies. They owe alliegence to Philippe Augustus King of France.

The Companie of Knights Bachelor are available for school shows as well as Private events and fairs.
