Resistant Materials provides a user-friendly resource of material properties and processes. Students are not only helped to make informed decisions about the right materials for their project but also assisted in producing documentary evidence to back up their decision making.

Resistant Materials is easy to use. It does not require specialist IT staff, yet it delivers National Curriculum objectives and helps the development of word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.

Features:

Browse Materials
Pupils can explore the information in the databases and see a compilation of properties, uses and a picture of the material or a product made from it. Most of the properties are shown as simple yes/no values but some, e.g. hardness, are shown as three values - hard, intermediate or soft.

Search for materials
Pupils can search the databases either by the type of material or by specific physical or working properties. They are encouraged to type up an evaluation of the search. The results of the search and the evaluation can be printed out or saved.

Costing and Cutting List
Pupils can input dimensions to create a cutting list of materials. The price is calculated automatically from a 'unit cost' and this can be updated from a separate staff editing program.
