The other day at work myself and a few co-workers got into a big
argument. We were having a debate about how the environment that you
live in (and grew up in) can influence the type of person you are.
I personally believe that things influence people. The music you listen
to (not neccessarily the lyrics but the tempo - whether it be up-beat
or relaxing) can have a major impact on one's disposition. I know that
when I listen to music by "Enya" I don't want to get up and dance...its
very relaxing, calming music...on the other hand...when I listen to
"Less then Jake" or "Wheatus" I become hyper. (Maybe I am just weird
like that!)
I cannot believe the ignorance of some people...some claim that one's
environment doesn't influence them at all. I beg to differ...I think
that if I would have grown up in the Bronx...I would be totally
different. There is no way that I would be the same person. I mean
really look at the differences in the environments...The Bronx is not
the most cozy place in the world...however South Dakota is a relatively
comfortable place to live. I am not claiming that nothing bad ever
happens here (this is not the movie Pleasantville) but it is a lot
calmer then the Bronx.
I guess that it really isn't that important to some people but
man...you have to have a lot of faith in people as humans to think that
the environment doesn't play a factor in one's life!
