The saguaro is one of the most recognized images of Arizona. A member of the cactus family, many saguaro reach 40 feet in height. They can live nearly 200 years. The saguaro grows only in the Sonora Desert, which includes southern Arizona, a small part of California, and Mexico's northern state of Sonora. |

Arizona has been the home of many cultures for almost 1000 years. It is thought that Casa Grande was built nearly 700 years ago by Native Americans known as the Hohokam. No one is sure of the function of this four story structure. |

Father Eusebio Kino visited Tumacacori in 1691. The original mission was built shortly after that visit. This church, La Purisima de Concepcion, was begun in 1800 and was abandoned in 1848. The mission is the focus of Tumacacori National Historical Park. |
