Breaking News on our team ...
Our team survived JKR Kedah's 2nd half onslaught and came out a 1-0 victor over the visitors from the north. A new look Kuala Lumpur team (added with a spanking new round-neck red kit courtesy of New Balance) dominated most of the match but failed to produce the goals, partly due to an excellent goalkeeping by the JKR Kedah's goalkeeper. KL themselves fielded rookie keeper in Razi Effendi and he did well for the team and himself. Rosle Derus, skipper S.Saravanan and Azali Mat Jusoh were among those who shined in the young KL team. It was only in the 85th minute that the city boys found the net via Zulkifli Effendy, another newcomer to the team.

Elsewhere, the newly-formed KLFA Fan Club made its first terrace apperance complete with banners, kompang group and all. The signs are good. Let's hope there will be more Kuala Lumpur true fottball fans who will come to the stadium and support the team. KL will meet again with JKR Kedah in the 2nd leg of the FA Cup on 18th March. Waiting next, if we make it to the next round will be a definite JKR Kelantan who whipped Kedah Ansell 7-0 last night in the 1st leg.

After the heartbreak of losing 0 - 4 to Kelantan a forthnight ago, the young KL team showed mental resilience to withstand Negri's onslaught tonight at the KLFA Stadium. In the end, it was a very sweet, hard-earned 3 points for Lim Kim Lian's boys after surprising Negri with 2 late goals to come out victor with a final scoreline of 2 - 1. Mohd Farid Dewan & supersub, Mohd Shariful Hisham were the toast of KL team after 2 well-executed goals in the final 7 minutes. Earlier, Negri snatched the lead through their own young striker, Yusafizan Johar. Farid headed the ball in from a perfectly-timed cross from current KL's top-scorer Liew Kim Tu. Farid's goal ended the goal-draught from the strikers department (Kim Tu & the other scorer before tonight's match, M. Eswaran are midfielders). Farid's header reminded the webmaster of the goal scored by Emile Heskey during Liverpool's match against Wycombe in the FA Cup semifinal recently ; solid precision heading with enough force to give the keeper no chance. The second goal came unexpected. Just when both teams were about to settle for a point each, a goal-mouth melee resulted in Shariful Hisham blasting the ball in from close range, to the dismay of the majority Negri supporters in the KLFA Stadium. Next, bring on Selangor in the local derby. Let's hope we'll see more Hawks supporters in that match.

26th June 2001
It's a rare sight these days, but last nite's national team's match against Bosnia Herzegovina, Kuala Lumpur had a representative. Imran Ahmad, better known as 'Along' to his fans in the city, made his national debut in the yellow jersey. Overall he had a good game in the rain-soaked match (albeit, in the second half) at Shah Alam Stadium. This, despite him scoring an own goal to put the Bosnians in front. The national team were playing for pride last nite having lost twice earlier to Bahrain & Slovakia. The 2 - 2 draw was fair result I guess, considering the state of the playing field in the 2nd half. All 4 goals were scored in the 2nd half. The Merdeka Tournament continues tonight with the Under-23 national team playing their Thai counterparts for a place in the semis. Let's cheer our boys on !!!
