The Malay Mail today (Feb, 8th 2001) reported that KLFA have engaged the services of Iraq's Wathiq Naji Jassim as its new Technical Director. Wathiq is a highly decorated soccer general in the Arab world. This is the same man who took Iraq national team to the Worl Cup finals in Mexico '86. Wathiq, 60 years of age, will be responsible to oversee the development of KL soccer and it is hoped that all local KL coaches will benefit from his vast experience. Though, initially he will be in the city for a period of 9 months, let's all wish him the best and hopefully, can steer the Hawks to glory, if not becoming one of the feared team again in the country. All the best Baghdad Genie !

Saturday 10th Feb. The venue was KLFA Stadium in Cheras. A young KL team lost 1-2 in a friendly match with the Negri Sembilan squad. Although the result does not favour the city team, but from what the writer saw, there's indeed hope in Lim Kim Lian's young charges. Furthermore, the inclusion of new signing, Yaacob Aris from the Armed Forces was a good move. He is surely seen as one of KL's reasons to have hopes for the new season. Iraq's Wathiq Jassim was there guiding the boys and from the looks of things, there are good vibes. Let's hope for the best and that the team will deliver the goods

The Star reported today (8th March 2001) that our team has signed a one year deal with Stream Enterprise (M) Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for New Balance products, to supply the team with a new set of football kit. The agreement was signed yesterday at the KLFA office. Johari Zainal, general manager for Stream Enterprise (M) Sdn Bhd revealed that the sponsorship was worth RM 200,000 in cash & kind. Well, we thank Stream Enterprise for stepping up front to assist KL team as it prepares for the new season. Let's hope the new kit design will be a striking Kuala Lumpur red that will help to intimidate our opponents. New Balance is not generally known to be a main football kit supplier. The webmaster knows only 2 other teams in the world that wears New Balance kit. Those teams are Oxford United, of English Nationwide 2nd Division & Deportivo Cali, Colombia's strong club side. It is understood that Aston Villa's Gareth Southgate is also sponsored by New Balance and he wears New Balance boots. A suggestion to Stream Enterprise : perhaps they might want to make the KL new kit available for purchase by KL fans. Why not? Avenue of income for Stream Enterprise & KLFA, and more importantly the fans can show support in unison to the team. Think about it.
