| A short story about a live performance: On stage. Plug in the guitar, switch on the amp, crank up the volume, play your favorite riff, and??? Nothing but a hum...buzz...hiss. Switch off the amp, plug out and in again, switch on again, carefully turn the volume on the guitar....ckkrkcssrrrr.....ahh....there you go....it's the volume.....turn the volume a few times up and down.....and....sounds better now, but still.....the sound is not what you expected. Something is wrong, but what??? Could be the volume, the tone, the connector, the pickup, the stomp box, the amp, the speaker, whatsoever. There's no time to check now, the gig has to start. Sounds familiar??? I know. I've seen that a hundred times. |

| This is an example of a guitar modification. Ernie Ball MUSICMAN Axis, 2 humbucker, 1 pickup switch, 1 volume pot, standard wiring. In order to keep the beautiful front finish, the 4 switches for split coil and phase are built into the back panel. The sound can be changed with 2 switches for each humbucker, one to change the phase (in or outer phase) and one to split the coil. This gives 16 different sounds in addition to the standard 3 pos. pickup switch on the front. |
