We first started thinking about breeding rabbits a year ago. We had always had guinea pigs since very young ages, and always had them in pairs from a lady we knew, that is very kind and helpful and always made sure we done everything right. About 18months ago we lost an Abyssian guinea pig due to old age, so then we decided we wanted to get a rabbit. We still had one guinea pig, we went to a pet shop and decided we liked a Dutch, so we bought him and named him 'Flopsy'. A few months later we bought Bella and we then bought Izzy & Luke. We were told Izzy was a girl so we was going to get 'her' spayed. But luckily she wasn't! Turned out 'she' was a he, "it was a boy"!! Then it all started there when we bred Izzy and Bella. Bella successfully had her very first litter 4 weeks ago and has mothered 6 lovely babies. 3 REW and 3 magpie.
The name Magnolia Stud came from the USA as we have a house there on a street called 'Magnolia' Street. We are also known as kksrabbitsnguineas. We are now B.R.C registered, We have registered in my sisters name Kirsty she is a Junior aged 12 and she is the one that wants to show our rabbits. Eventually I will register but for now it is in her name as she will be going to the shows! I will be doing the breeding part and try and get her some good show rabbits and hope that she will do well with what I achieved for her. She will start going to shows in the next few months when hopefully we will have bred some good show stock for her to take!
We are still trying to learn about colours and what can be bred with what. We are getting there slowly but shorly and we are having lots of help from different breeders we have met through the BRC Forum and Onyx & Hartwin Stud and we would like to thank them so much for that. I think if it wasn't for them few people I would be stuck and wouldn't know what to do.... although reading stuff up on the internet may not always be right ... someone in experience I find best and that is where they have helped me.
We breed Miniature lops, Dwarf lops and eventually we will breed Dutch rabbits. We want to get our own good line of rabbits for showing and breeding bred by ourselves and that's the target we are trying to aim towards for now. We have Kits available sometimes but as beginners we will not want to go over the top to begin with. We will keep it going slowly and gradually make our stud bigger. We really hope we can help you.
