Iota Omicron was founded on September 29, 1991 on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The chapter was founded under the direction of Dr. Joe Brashier, who was the marching director at that time.

We are a very diverse group, ranging from those heavily engaged in band to members that enjoy just playing music, all united under the purpose of serving bands.

Iota Omicron is currently involved in many projects within the Hayes School Of Music, and offers support to organizations ranging in variety from the Marching Mountaineers to Phi Mu Alpha and their Marching Band Festival.

Advisors:
Director of Bands: Dr. John Ross
Chapter Sponsor: Dr. Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham

Projects & Activities
The Iota Omicron is heavily involved with many projects within the School of Music & surrounding community of Boone. Some of our on-going projects are as follows:

Janice Transou Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is given out every year to bandsmen that show outstanding qualities & leadership skills. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 & submit a packet of information including personal questions & references. Two scholarships are given out; one worth $300.00 & one worth $200.00.

Concert Setups - The Brothers of Iota Omicron participate in concert setups for all of our band enembles, setting, as well as removing, chairs & stands from the stage for each concert.

Practice Setups - Every band has a different ensemble setup, and the Brothers make sure that each ensemble's chairs and stands are set prior to their rehearsal.

Concert Ushering - In addition to setting up and tearing down for concerts, the Brothers also lend a hand by ushering for band concerts, handing out programs, and answering questions.

Doughtnut Table - The Brothers provide a table in the lobby every friday morning from 8am until we sell out, selling doughnuts, coffee and hot chocolate to the students of Hayes School of Music. We also have Lowes Foods gift cards on sale every Friday, which are a great way to support ASU's bands.

Adopt A Highway - Approximately once a semester or year the Brothers take part in a litter sweep in the Boone area, cleaning up a stretch of a local road.
