My Tool Consecration Ritual
Back to main page
Any tool you make or use carries energy.  Therefore it is advisable to cleanse them and dedicate them for the intended purpose.  The first thing you would usually consecrate would be your knife or athame.  The following ritual is written for an athame, simply insert the name of the tool being consecrated.
Firstly cast the circle (
Erecting the temple), go as far as "Now the temple is erected I will not leave without good reason"

Consecration Ritual
Holding the athame in your dominate hand, raise it above your head in a salute and say:

"God and Goddess, my Lord and Lady
Here do I present my athame
Fashioned from nature into what you now see
May it henceforth serve me
In my worship of you
As a tool and weapon of love"

Place the athame on the altar, kneel before it with head bowed and think about the construction of the tool, the energies you have put into it and your intended use.  Dip your finger in the salted water and sprinkle the knife with it.  Sprinkle both sides of the blade and handle.  Then hold it in the smoke of the incense and say:

"May this sacred water and holy smoke
drive out any impurities in this knife,
let it be pure and cleansed for myself, my Lord and Lady.
Let it be ready to serve.
So mote it be."

Hold the knife in the palms of your hand and concentrate your energies into it.  Then say:

"I charge this knife, through me and with the wisdom given to me
from the God and Goddess."

If you wish to consecrate other things at this time, repeat the above ritual and then close the circle as follows.  Raise your athame in your dominate hand and say:

"My thanks to the Gods for their attendance,
may they ever watch over me and give me guidance.
Love is the Law and Love is the Bond.
So mote it be"

Keep the consecrated items with you for 24 hours and then sleep with them under your pillow for a week.  Others may touch the tools if you wish, but they shoudl not be excessively handled and should not be used outside of the circle for anything.
