Hello again everyone! Well the month has come and gone and we are still in Sihanoukville ha ha ha!! We did manage to get away from here for a week to see Angkor Wat and Siem Reap but have returned and are again relaxing and enjoying the quiet, the sun and the beaches. Now you may be wondering what we see in the place but let me assure you we arent the only Yukoners Kita and I began hanging out in a little coffee shop that served lattes (of course), within an hour we had befriended the owner, his wife and 4 separate regulars all of which were from Whitehorse. These guys all come to Sihanoukville for the winter and enjoy how far their dollar will get them. Last weekend with Jerry, Steven, Tony, Wendy, Gord, Doug, Kita, myself, and yes 4 more from Whitehorse that we ran into on Victory Hill (including Jesse and Phil from Lizards) there were 12 Yukoners in this town! SMALL WORLD!! ... And, I happened to start chatting with a guy from New York whose great-grandparents and grandparents lived In Dawson around the Gold Rush (Judell was the last name). I know, bizarre isn't it. Kita and I booked our bus tickets out of here for the 8th of the month but a huge error on my part made us a weee bit late and we missed the bus to Koh Kong! OOPS!! sorry Kita. I hopped on a bus to Phnom Penh that afternoon to square up some banking then back the next day to pack up and prepare for Thailand. Feeling a bit under the weather and seeing as how it was raining (one of the few days we've been here) we pushed back the leave until the 11th - We have also dicovered that the boat is only 2 dollars more and is 2hours (or more) less (not to mention it leaves at 12:30 as opposed to 7 am!) What a ride it should be!!! Our Itinerary has changed as well. We have decided not to go to Malaysia and Singapore as there have been a few problems on the Thai Malaysia border and we spent more time in Cambodia then expected so... Trat Thailand to ko Chang island than off to Bangkok. Bangkok to Kantchanabury to see the bridge on the river Kwai From there to the south of Thailand to spend our days lounging in the sun and enjoying the FANTASTIC Thai food! Which, by the way, we will be learning to make in a cooking class (to go with the Vietnamese class we took, and the quick instructions and recipes from our new friend Saravanna (owner of the Bamboo Light Restaurant in Sihanoukville and Kampot)) That means I WILL BE COOKING FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO EXPERIENCE THE FOOD, and my attempts at it, when I get home!!!! |
